There was a cage tunnel in between and a white line painted on the floor about 6 foot from the cage. The coppers warned us if we crossed the line they’d not only throw us out, they’d put us in with the Aldershot fans for a few minutes first! not sure they did though Always fiesty. 054123
Lots for different reasons. Some were important to the club some were just important to me. Watford away in 96 or 97 was a watershed moment for me in terms of how I have followed the club ever since. A lot of ‘growing up’ done that day for different reasons! Anyone recall a trip to Aldershot in a howling gale when some wiring came loose in the away end and started hitting the pillars causing showers of sparks? We got moved to the side as all the steelwork in there was live! I think it might have been a FRT game. I also remember walking past The Cannon pub when a pool ball came through the (closed) window missing my head by inches.

pillred
I don't think I can let this topic end without mentioning attending what I thought was going to be city's last ever match over at Newport, it was an extremely emotional day for the fans and the players the result was immaterial but because I thought it would be the last game they would ever play I was glad we didn't lose, 1-1 I think it was, when the players came to our end to acknowledge us for what they all thought might be the last time some were in tears I know a lot of us fans were.

Notts County Tinmans 500th game. Goodfellow last minute winner from Tinnions Cross IIRC? Too young for the infamous Coventry game but can remember winning 3-0 up there in the POseason under GJ and a cup win the season before.

bcfcredandwhite
I've not had many happy away days. I've seen us lose to Forest several times, lose to Preston, lose to Hull, lose to Stoke, lose to Mansfield, lose to Swindon, lose to Walsall, lose to Watford........... even lose to the gas at Twerpton I know I've been to many others - mostly during the Terry Cooper days, but they must have been pretty boring because none of them spring to mind. In fact, I can say that in all my years I've seen us beat Carlisle and Walsall in the Fisher Price cup final, get an underserved win at Blackpool. first game of the season in the pouring rain with Steve Brooker getting a 'smash & grab' goal (Particularly harsh on Blackpool because our GK should have been sent off for making a 'save' outside the box). I saw us beat Brighton last game of LJs first season in charge which p155ed on Brighton's promotion parade! I also saw us beat Reading away a couple of seasons ago - one of Brownhill's last games for us with Paterson getting the only goal. Although a win is always nice I honestly can't say any of those were particularly memorable away days. Most of the away games I've been to have been pretty rubbish!!! I remember so much shit thrown at us at it was a bit of a worry as we were only in our teens. we sang and we sang and we sang and I will always remember that night. I suppose we al have great memories of away matches and it depends on which era and who you went with and how important the match was at that time. That was my second favourite away match after the Arsenal game the same season
MarcusX
I'm younger than a lot of you so different perspective, for me it's more recent games. Palace away in the playoffs was special with that last minute winner. Bradford away to secure promotion was another great one. Man City away was almost incredible, arguably the best team in the world at the time

I remember the coach stopping at the services and it just bouncing with red and white scarves.

bemmyredjeff
First away game with my dad, 1971/72 season at Hillsborough. Wednesday had just been relegated from division 1 and fans were calling for the resignation of manager Derek Dooley for most of the game and not helped by City winning 5-1. First time i'd seen an electronic scoreboard which at one point read ....OWLS 0 CITY 5 ( 9,9,4,8,9 ) Galley, Galley, Emmanuel, Garland, Galley. Garland was substituted near the end with an injury and was given a standing ovation by the crowd and even clapped off by Gordon Hill, a great old school ref. One of Garlands last games for us before moving to Chelsea.

Well after watching them hit the post and cross bar 7 times and clearing off the line it was all summed up at the end by seeing Gerry Gow vertially crawling along and totally knackered City gave there all. The baggies supporter turned to me at the end and said with that luck you are going up.

A 0-0 draw with Sunderland was followed (or preceded, I forget now) by a 1-0 win at The Hawthorns. Holding on for that victory, under a constant barrage of crosses and shots, especially knowing how important it was to our promotion hopes, was nail biting to say the least. That game at West Brom was like the siege of the Alamo think we scored right on half time and didn’t get out of our half for the all of the second half, Coventry game our coach had problems so arrived late, asked the police where are fans where in the ground and they said everywhere, so load of us ended up in their end, where there was already a big contingent of Bristol City fans
