Fans brilliant today

The support in the last part of the game was brilliant.

There was also a turning point in the first half when we were 1-0 down, and playing in a very lethargic way, when the fans made their displeasure known and it seemed to give the players a jolt.

I thought the fans were brilliant today ,boo them when they were shit and sat off the ball and that was correct to let em know they weren’t committed enough , then when needed the whole ground was stood up and cheering them over the line , not heard it that loud for a long time COYR

I know what you’re saying, but after their  goal went in we needed to lift the place.

I was as pissed as the next person but with still 2 thirds if the game to go against poor opponents, I felt we didn’t need to be too negative.

Shame so many missed our brace ?

One step beyond post FT a random shout but sent the place into delirium

I was quite emotional, there seemed to be a real belief that we could win just through sheer force of will, it's worth noting that some of the chants were being started by the South Stand section behind the goal rather than the "East End", The One Step Beyond moment as we were leaving was excellent, I had a little dance with one of the stewards, it was a such a feeling of relief more than anything else.

I was going mental for our brace.

Shouting at the rest of the section to start getting behind the team only to realise loads had already popped under the stand ?

It just had that feeling today.

All agreed on this!  We are normally quite bad as a crowd at exerting nervous energy, especially when it goes beyond 85 mins, so to hear red army on loop, vs groans really made a difference i think. Commented to the old man when leaving that it is nuts that quite a bit of the squad have never experienced winning at home in front of a city crowd, this will hopefully will give them a taste for it now!.

Agreed, the support in the last 10 minutes to get us over the line was outstanding. I don't think I've ever heard 'Red Army' so loud.

One Step Beyond on the way out was great fun!

Another point - the minute`s silence for Remembrance Day pre match was observed immaculately. Well done all.

It was in the stands but from where I was there was loads of noise from people still on the concourse.

Serious question, but when all those of you are in the concourse and we score, do you all celebrate madly or just a little fist pump?

Another thing worth noting, it proves that all the talk of acoustics and crowd placement doesn’t mean shit if the stadium is willing to support the team vocally.

I’ve said it a few times on here, there was no issue with acoustics when we beat Man Utd, a great atmosphere is there for the taking if the fans get behind the team

The most fun at the Gate for a looooong time.

We Don't always show that kind of support (the same couldn't be seen at the forest game), but you could almost visibly see how the crowd dragged the team over the line today.

Just seen that the atmosphere at the end got a special mention on the Quest highlights ???

I don’t blame the fans one iota for the boos and catcalls halfway through the first half - it was unacceptable.

Their support got us over the line in the end - were truly our twelfth man today. Kudos to everyone there from this poor exile.

Well it certainly made a change that all the crowd joined in with them, rather than the East End shouting them down with their own chants like kids throwing their toys out of the pram.

While we're at it, it pisses me off when they ask other parts of the ground to bounce around, and then boo them no matter how well they respond. ******* "superfans".

Oh and while I am on a roll, I think they have been responsible for this bad run of results by tempting fate every time we have been winning. You all know what I mean........

"How shit must you be we're winning at home" ..........

Cue the equaliser/winner from the opposition.

Can we do this again every time we need to grind out a result? (Not expecting if we are 3-0 up/or down)

Hell, we all know it's going to be a battle every game, but let's do it again and again and again. If it gets us home wins. Our home record can be helped by all of us and damn did it feel like we all earnt the final whistle.

Red Army ?⚪

Shock horror, atmosphere improves when everyone makes an effort.

Well I’ll be damned.

Not exactly rocket science is it, a handful of lads trying in a corner of the ground most games, as you have proven if others make an effort too, instead of being sat in complete silence most games the difference is massive.

Not really anything to do with super fans is it, it’s always been the same.

It’s been said many times on here before , the support is need from the start to get the team pumping but everyone needs to be in right mood ie boring music in concourse before games sending people to sleep .The music as we left was brilliant people all around ground singing ONE STEP BEYOND come on city liven the ground up a few tribute bands at different points of ground ie oasis etc and please please address the awful beer / lager

I can barely remember an atmosphere like that, we were awesome in that last 10. I’m vocal when the people around me are quiet, it was so fun seeing all fans old and young get totally swept away in the moment. I think yesterday will last long in the memory.

As someone relatively new to the "new" EE having moved there this season it's quite an interesting place and not what it seems from the outside. There's no shouting down of others chants, you can't hear any of them TBH - there seems to be about 5 different places songs start from in the corner and at any one time the EE might have 3 different songs going at the same time, it's really only the drum or megaphone that brings it all together. If your outside you would only hear the ones that get to 3 or more of these smaller groups.

I don't think anyone in there thinks of themselves as superfan, that would be something others project on to them because they are the noisy singers, from what I have seen they mostly like having fun, want to create/enjoy the atmosphere and want to enjoy the football (mostly in that order).

Booing other parts of the ground is stupid but it's very much part of the type of humour I think - tongue in cheek, self depreciation, gallows humour much like the "how shit must you be" song but in the context of the order of preference of fun, atmosphere then football it kind of makes sense if a bit counter productive, same as the same Joey Barton songs 5 mins into the game.

Having moved there from the middle of the SS I certainly prefer it to having some obnoxious moaning old bloke sat behind me that thought he was the next next Andy Gray but knew **** all about football. Despite the results this season I have always walked away having enjoyed myself more if also a little horse.

Wish it could be how it was in the last 10-15 mins every game for the entire game. Let’s start getting the Gate rocking again! It’s so much more fun..it’ll make a massive difference on the pitch so Come On Fellow City Fans ?

I thought so too - slightly more than for the Forest game which I find surprising because a) Forest brought more fans and b) I wouldn’t blame City fans for not wanting to go again for a very long time after that horror show.

Wasn’t so very long ago that would have been a full house at AG and we’d have no chance of getting that many for a midseason game against a poor side with low numbers following them away.

Pezo, you sum it all up perfectly for that area, it’s the same now as it was when the east end was reopened with that “image”.

In reality it’s nothing like what people assume, even the booing people take seriously for some reason.

I think the voucher code (2 4 1)  offer may have had an effect, and perhaps shows there is an audience out there at a particular price point.

Yes to be fair my comments (apart from the "how shit must you be" stuff) was more of a response to the annoying negativity from other posters. The stuff about shouting down other chants was more about previous seasons so I take that back. I am right on the edge of the singing section but even from there, myself or others around us have prompted some chants. It's something I have often found fascinating, why sometimes an individual shout will become a chant and yet often it can just fall on deaf ears. I'll bet there is a paper somewhere that someone has done for their dissertation sometime on just that phenomena. :)

I bet there is something that would link it to fluid dynamics especially turbulent flow, that's essentially what it is, a melting pot of songs where some drown out others.

I've stood just behind the S82 lads quite a bit so far, they start a lot of songs that don't get outside there "group".

If you think about it it's very democratic, if you can hear more than 1 song sing the one you want, if everyone agrees by singing the same song then it gets loud/popular. It's messy and has its worts but works eventually. Just keep going.

Port Said, I am in s25 and have been since fans were allowed back there as a “singing area”, I can honestly say I’ve heard other chants no more than about 10 times.

I don’t think it’s people not Joining in, it’s more people aren’t aware of any songs.

It’s a bit like myself saying, the away fans are awful you rarely hear them. It’s clear they are singing, I can physically see it, but from where I stand you never hear them, yet according to others they are louder than city fans etc.

Absolutely this.

Its become part of the ‘pantomime’ to boo the other areas after their ‘bounce around’

If I were the other areas I’d laugh or applaud as you know it’s coming ?

I think you’re reading a bit too much into this PSR.

In the last 32 years I’ve stood on the east end, then went E Block Atyeo, then B Block Dolman, then the far corner of the Williams, then back to the east end when it re opened, then followed it around the Williams, Atyeo and finally the south stand.

There are no super fans, nobody shouts down ‘other songs’, people like to just stand and sing and swear and shout. Nobody really takes any notice and for every song somebody starts that gets going, the next one invariably fails and you’d never even know. I’ve started thousands of songs and also looked like a numpty when nobody joined in. I really couldn’t care.

Just like when I’ve stood in these areas all my life, there are young’uns, old’uns, men and women, all stood there bound by the shared decision that this is how they wish to experience football.

And finally, yes, it’s now become somewhat of a pantomime tradition to boo after the ‘bounce arounds’ probably dating back to when nobody in the Williams did ? Just go with it, it’s funny, you know it’s going to happen!

That fanzine has some terrific writers. ;)

There has always been a bit of banter, for want of a better word, between the various stands at AG. I remember I was queuing for the train to Cardiff for the LDV Final in ‘03 - the only time I’ve actually been to a match (I’m kidding, honest!) and the bloke in front of me referred to “The T**tyeo Stand.” Charming.

And back in the late 90s the band resident at the back of H Block of the Atyeo would occasionally sing “Dolman Stand, **** off home” as a small but steady stream of patrons would sneak off early to avoid the FT congestion.

I found it funny when the unenthusiastic participation in the EE (I think it was the Bournemouth game) was about 25% and they booed themselves.

Exactly.

Its just a bit of nonsense.

I used to like it when for the bigger games, most of the b block in the dolman would stand and sing. If I didn’t have the kids I think I would probably go down there for the more tasty games.

Although my middle aged back kills me if I sit down for an hour ?

Similar but younger, I've been told by the physio that due to having a desk job I sit down way too much and need to stand (and more importantly move around) whenever possible.

B block is where the school trips go these days. Most of the familiar faces who sat there haven’t returned post covid
