Strange memories? As I mentioned, I was convinced it was a pleasant Spring evening .
Offside
Shelton was such an excellent player. He scored City’s first goal in my first ever away game (3-0 win at Cardiff in 1989 in torrential rain, a game when Super Bob scored a screamer of a volley). Oh Louie louie
Amazing to think how many 1st division standard players joe was able to attract. Bob taylor, said to work with joe was his main reason for joining.

Oh Louie louie
The fact he was playing till he was 39, in his position, tells you what a player he was.

That was one lively game before and afterwards. I was in top corner of grange with a blue and white golf umbrella, came in handy as not only kept rain off but also the hundreds of coins coming over the back wall. Absolutely pisched down all day long .
beaverface
I seem to have a vague memory of Shelts scoring the only goal as a winner away to Barnsley. I can't remember if it was really cold or I got soaked through standing on the open terrace up there??!
The Dolman Pragmatist
He was rugby tackled by Steve Sutton in the 4-3 away win at Derby, winning a penalty with Sutton getting sent off. What a match that was!

TomThumb84
True legend of this football club in arguably the best side we have produced in my lifetime. He enabled the attacking intent of Gavin, Smith and God Taylor and the carnage of Robbie Turner to be unleashed with his nous and drive. All the best Shelts! Lanterne Rouge
I remember him lamping a clearance into that open corner between the Dolman and the Open End and knocking a copper`s helmet off.
Spoonbed
In my view, the best player, in the best City side I have seen in my lifetime (48, so too young for the first division days)

Oh, and Shelts was sent off! Edit: Think the away game you're thinking of was the following season Edited March 22, 2022 by Merrick's Marvels
