Nigel Pearson speaks to the BBC

Referees won't want it, a lot hide away from accountability where possible and do anything to avoid admitting mistakes including lying in attempt to avoid saying they're incompetent. You think its hard to get even decent refs now? Imagine how hard it would be if everyone knew why they were making decisions.

Doesn’t have to be broadcast to all and sundry as a first step…could be just recorded, for use afterwards in appeals, or just relayed to assessor, manager, etc.  Baby steps, baby steps.  Got to start somewhere.

They won’t even want that as it’s definitive proof they can’t escape from, when officials lie in front of assessors then you know what they’re about

Might stop players and managers abusing them also.

I have a vague recollection of that being tried once, and the recorded continual foul mouthed abuse from players and managers etc meant that it was never tried again?

That’s just defeatist because “that’s what happens now”.

It takes time to change that culture, but you have to start somewhere.  Ask why they lie to the assessor, get to the root cause, maybe something else needs changing.

Shame the players / managers as step one.  Seems completely the wrong decision to stop trying it…because it appears to have actually showed exactly what you’d want…that the players / managers have no respect.  Start there, build trust and respect.

I know it’s not easy.

But even for Dean Whitestone, typical lack of transparency, he’s reffing in Lg1 this weekend.  Is that actually just a policy of one game, you’re out.  Maybe that’s the root cause.

‘They’ shouldn’t really have a say, if UEFA of FIFA or indeed the Prem decided it would improve the game to mic up refs (even if not broadcast) then it should happen.  The lack of accountability from officials is staggering when you think how much money is at stake!
