bristol_dunc
Have I missed something, we gone from Man of the match , to player of the match , now pick of the match . What is next ?
swanker
Haven’t noticed this. Is it because it’s no longer socially acceptable to use the word “Man” because of offending someone?

Lack of Action Man
This is only very tenuously linked, but I assume in women’s football, it’s either MVP or player of the match? So … when they’re being pressed hard for the ball from the blindside, what do the fans/players shout? Surely not man on… player on doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue… Forgive my ignorance - I need to get to more live games (and not televised WSL matches).

View from the Dolman
There are also potential legal complications around "man of the match": Quote The intellectual property rights of the phrase "man of the match" has been sold at auction and some copyright experts think the slogan could be worth millions of pounds. https://news.sky.com/story/man-of-the-match-catchphrase-trademark-sold-10469445

Barrs Court Red
I did chuckle at as I imagined the distraught look on the producers face as Souness talked about a “man’s game” earlier.
