Vyner

Gave me “Louis Carey at his peak” vibes today, really calm & assured on the ball, always available for a pass & won his fair share in the air against the obnoxious Deeney & physical Jutkiewicz.

On for player of the season at this rate.

Whereas once he was the weak link at the back, he has definitely stepped up and looks like a Championship level defender. Also happy to bring out from the back which was really good to see and makes me think we might be better going 4-4-2 with Atkinson and Vyner, plus pushing Pring into left midfield where he can do more damage going forward.

Did a lot better than he did worse though. Same as the cup game . Same as last 5-10 games

Yes but I believe in honest opinion and you can be brilliant for 90 mins but one mistake that potentially costs a goal cannot be ignored.  He completely lost his position and was schoolboy defending.

Khedra was offside I think, and if he wasn't it was Atkinson who didn't step up to Zak's line so it wasn't schoolboy defending it was either poor officiating, or a slight slip by the otherwise excellent Atkinson.

I said in the CEO thread that on current form I wonder if other clubs are looking at Zak, he could make a very useful squad player for one of the teams that are likely to be promoted.

It's amazing what confidence will do for a player, he suddenly seems to have an extra second on the ball and his timing of interceptions is almost Bobby Moore like.

Remarkable that Pearson previously said during the summer that he was only here still because of numbers.

He still has some flaws in his game (positioning for the 2nd today seemed terrible) and can be targeted but certainly the most improved from last year and has some very good contributions to our forward play.

Or alternatively Vyner pushed up when he shouldn’t have.

There are very few players that have the knack of improving, quickly, and stepping up to each challenge. At a higher level Vardy, also Pack and Flint at city, and Fielding. These types of players are rare, and exciting - where is his ceiling? Who knows, but I think he still has levels to go through, let’s hope they are here.

Zak played well.

I’m bored of this (I’m joking btw)…I wanna talk about Tanner.  Who I thought was bloody excellent today.  Just what I want from my RB.

On a serious point, I think we do need to stop treating Zak like he’s 21 and just breaking through.  I’m bloody delighted he’s playing well and justifying his place, but I think there comes a time when we need to accept he’s a capable player now.  Sorry!

Back to Tanner….??? (I see he now has his own thread, ‘bout time)

Another assured performance today. Must admit at start of season I had him down as someone who would always switch off at vital moments and cost us goals, but he seems to have got over that and really has become our most consistent defender. Well done Zac.

You and me both.

If ever there was a player I feel I should apologise to for wrongly writing off, it's Zak.

Given a run of games and a steady position he has proved himself one of the stars of the season.

Understated, perhaps, but assured.
