Wasn't it Bell and Brennan? I'm sure we sold Barnard to Barnsley then recruited Bell under Jordan or John Ward, Brennan then broke through under  Benny after Ward was sacked.

You may be right! Either way I remember us having two superb left backs at the same time and we may be in that position 20 years on. I remember we had to play Jim RB and he was insanely good there as well - won a game against Blackpool single handed

We had so many good left backs back then, but only one left sided midfielder - think it was no coincidence that the left backs flourished when we had Tinnion on the pitch.

The overlaps between whichever left back we had and Tinnion were a joy to watch. (And then the switch over to the right wing where Scott Murray would cut in and score). Ah - nostalgia!

Left backs seem to be Bristol City's best position over the years:

Scott, Barnard, Bell, Brennan, Bryan, Cunningham, Dasilva, Pring, now Roberts

Why does everyone sleep on Matty Hill Technique lacking on occasion but good enough to win player of the year at Preston (in the Championship) and have a promotion with Wolves then go on to play in the PL with Wolves all at Left back

Argument for Matt Hill based on the level he played on a consistent basis for big clubs, being our best academy product but he is seemingly forgotten, key man under Danny Wilson great CB at League 1 level. Danny Coles and Butler took credit in 03/04 for our defensive performance but Hill was exceptional defensively

Went to school with Matty and you’re right, defensively sound. Had he been taller he would have been made a top top centre half.

Great player for us wish he was apart of things when GJ took over, but I feel he was allowed to leave because we preferred Woodman and Goulbourne as wing backs. Big mistake IMO
