Obviously there was the cup final appearance in 1909, but can anyone help with a question that I was sent below please?

I'm also sure it happened but can't recall what the game was..

Hi happy new year, I have a bit of reasurch for you to do, I was chatting to a mate I use to go and watch City home and away around 1978/1985 didn't miss many games, I can remember City play in blue because there away kit clashed with the home teams home kit and I think it was Orient, City had to borrow there away kit, there is a pt on it, I can't find anything about it and I hope you might know someone who might know, sorry lol

Tis true.... Orient away cup game circ 82ish lost 4 1 iirc......

Yup, November 20th, away. We lost 4-1. Our team on the day...

  • John Shaw
  • Paul Stevens
  • Peter Johnson
  • Alan Nicholls
  • Rob Newman
  • Glyn Riley
  • Jon Economou
  • Tom Ritchie
  • Gary Williams
  • Terry Cooper
  • Alan Crawford
  • Steve Thompson (sub)

Johnson got the goal.

Jon Economou was friends with a guy who lived over the road from my parents house, so as a kid I grew up seeing him quite often.

Blackpool 1959 FA Cup

Bear in mind that the FA Cup rule then was in the instance of a colour clash, both teams should chang colours. Many teams wearing blue or red, had white shirts as their second colours. Nothing like today where most clubs will have three kits and some even four.

So the club usually tossed up for white alternative and City lost out in three FA Cup games.

Against Blackpool, City wore a Cardiff City kit both at home and the replay.

As for the Rovers blue and white quarters, the first time was against Rotherham 3rd round FA cup. 3 Jan 1954.

The same happened for the only time that we have ever played Accrington Stanley and the Rovers supplied us a kit for away and home replay.

A few jokes from fans about the Rovers kits but nothing angry.

The both Change rule must have been changed soon after Blackpool because the next season we played Charlton at Ashton Gate and we wore red and they changed to white.

This thread has raised the memory in my head of that awful Gold, Blue and White striped monstrosity we had for the 2000 Auto Van LDV Paint Pot Final against Stoke.

The random fact that season we played Stoke three times in that season and wore a one off away kit in two of the games

Might have been a couple of hundred, not many more .

My memory isn't great , but I thought we took a few hundred that day.
I do remember terrace behind the goal and the seats on the side were the same price. Me and a mate went on the side and they had a bar open all game , at the back of the stand in view of the pitch. My mate got escorted to the "cells" for a spell and I got thrown out.
We were awful that day and blue shirts made it worse.

I remember being at the north open end of the ground and it was very "loose" packed, don't know about the west side .

Yep. City kit man forgot the kit and had to borrow Northamptons away strip.

Yes, late 1980s. I remember seeing the goals on the local news. I think we won 3-2 or 3-1 and Scott McGarvey scored.

I vaguely remember that. Scott McGarvey playing and possibly scoring. Funny the things you store at the back of your mind!

Me too.

In my mind he got a couple & we won 3-1?

Could be the strangeness of playing in blue (I was definitely at the Orient cup tie as well) that makes me remember it.
