Guest TinmansCulturedLeftPeg
Mate, just look at all the clubs who were divisions below us in the early 1990's....loads of them have tasted the Premiership already....I'm sure it will be our turn in years to come though so keep faith.... Guest hairyshamrock
the quick turn around of managers and the boards eagerness with the golden axe!! Bolton have built slowly and steadily on stability and continuity of managers; we haven't!!! we have had something like 12 managers in 14 years, take out Terry Cooper and Danny Wilson (in years and names) and see what you're left with! Guest Heathy33
And who was there?? I've still got a tape of the radio bristol commentary and it still gets a run out from time to time. The bloke doing its gets so excited when we scored its still makes the hairs stand up on my neck and brings the goose bumps on. How sad am i!!! It was 18 years ago! madmax
Poor management from board and manager level has got us into the position we are in. Remember the infamous "We'll be in the Premiership in five years", I was young at the time but even I said 'yeah right'!! Hopefully the board we have now can help us steadily raise up through the ranks of the football league and to Premiership quality in years to come, probably many years to come. Football only a few years ago was money, money, money, now thats all changing and maybe in a few years time we will be level with some of the 'Mr Big' clubs. Who knows, in 1986 I would never have said Bolton in the Premiership, or Norwich at that ! MM
Guest TinmansCulturedLeftPeg
I was at Wembley for that game....it was great,a great day.... I always remember Cooper-man(Terry Cooper) on the pitch after the game getting really emotionally with the trophy because he was so proud, but then after the game apparently Alan Walsh asked him about bonuses and Cooper-man said "it's only a mickey mouse cup!", but it was quite funny because just before that he was on the pitch crying with joy.... I'll get me coat

openEnd
Bloody hell your right as well....I got mixed up,we were 8th at the time of the Liverpool game though if that counts ← I dont like nitpicking but I was fairly certain that 1990/91 ended in our highest league position for a long time, and has since not been beaten. It was the season that saw Joe Jordan go to Hearts and Jimmy Lumsden take over. Yes, Jimmy Lumsden is our most successful manager (league wise) in god knows how long. We finished 9th and 2 points off the playoffs.

Where did it go wrong? ← Well, I'd like to say confidently that their reputed £38 million debt will one day come home to roost.......but it won't, because like all the other over-achievers before them, (e.g. Leicester, Leeds, Bradford) they'll call in the receivers and have it written off. Grrr. Still, I guess we're the last club who should be complaining about financial mis-management elsewhere....glass houses, stones, etc etc...
