Morning. Just wondering how impressed you've been with your youth training scheme. Are these youngsters actually starting to come through and play first team football yet? I can't help feeling sorry for some of the young'uns today, you join the youth squad, you play your heart out looking to break through into the first team in whatever position, and then you find the club just goes out and signs players instead of playing you. I know there's the old addage of experience but how can a youngster be expected to gain experience without actually being picked to play?

An interested Gashead.

Probably only Crewe have given youngsters more first team chances than City in recent years. Over half of the starting positions in last season's teams went to players who'd been on our books since youth days, broken down as follows:

  • Goalkeepers 100%
  • Defenders 77%
  • Midfielders 41%
  • Forwards 4%

Why not ask the same question on your own club's forum and compare the answers?

Why not share your conclusions with us then?

Like I said, feel sorry for the young'uns as chances are taken by players brought in by the club and youth players are not really pushed into the limelight. How many times have you heard someone say they saw a real bit of talent playing in your reserves and then you never hear from them again (apart from when they start sticking goals away for the team they have been passed onto?)

And besides, this was a question for you to answer, as I can't draw any conclusions about your club otherwise I wouldn't have asked the question would I?

You just said you knew all about your lot - and I've already told you about our's - so if you now tell us how many appearances were made by young gasheads last season we'll both have the info we need to make the comparisson won't we?

Lighten up mate, don't take your anger out on me

No anger here whatsoever, In fact I am awash with tranquility. It just seemed a bit strange coming from someone who holds the quality control of posts so dear to themselves.

whilst Phatwill is in hiding.

Who?

Are you sure you havn't missed the intended joke Mr Openend? Quality controll? Hmmm, maybe not, but there is a difference between a joke which is applauded and a message written in text language asking if were all going to the Swindon Game.

Comprende?
