Mr Popodopolous Posted June 26 Posted June 26 I sometimes wondered if a San Marino based side could progress somehow some way via the Italian pyramid and or a Liechtenstein side via the Swiss etc. Perhaps even an Andorran side to La Liga or Ligue 1. They are on the borders of these competent or big football nations, must be a lot of decent but uncapped players who could do so. Quote

While San Marino do have their own league as you can see above, Victor San Marino (formerly San Marino Calcio) currently play in Serie D and are theoretically able to qualify for European competition via that route, presumably taking up one of the Italian spots. On 26/06/2024 at 13:09, underhanded said: Vaduz FC (in Lichtenstein) play in the Swiss leagues This one is a bit more interesting. I believe Vaduz qualify for the European Conference League by virtue of winning the domestic cup in Liechtenstein. However, Lichtenstein are the only UEFA nation without a domestic league, and participate in Swiss competition as a 'guest club', meaning that even if they won the Swiss league, they would not be formally recognised as 'the winners'. This puts them in the weird position of really only being able to qualify for the ECL through domestic competition. In fact, the only way they could qualify for the Champions League, is if they first won the Liechtenstein domestic cup (to qualify for the ECL), then they would need to win the ECL (to qualify for the Europa League), and then they would need to win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League. And all in successive seasons! There are a few other quirks out there too but they escape me right now. I have a feeling there is a club out there that could theoretically play in the Champions Leagues of both Europe and Asia or Africa. Maybe a French club. But I can't remember it off of the top of my head. 1 Quote

La Réunion certainly do and, from time to time, produce very good players. I forget his name now, but West Ham had one a few years ago, a very good dead ball specialist, who may have been transferred to Marseille. His name suddenly came to me - Payet, like many people in La Réunion. Dimitri Payet, which I had to check with WIKI. Edited July 8 by PHILINFRANCE 2 Quote

Admin Phantom Posted August 6 Admin Posted August 6 THE VAR officials for Rangers' Champions League clash have reportedly been arrested for stealing a ROAD SIGN just hours before the crucial showdown. The Scottish giants are taking on Dynamo Kyiv in European action tonight in Poland - but there is already controversy before a ball has been kicked. Experienced Polish referee Bartosz Frankowski was initially appointed as VAR, with fellow official Tomasz Musial backing him up as assistant VAR. However, both officials have now dramatically been REMOVED from the game after incredible details emerged. TVP Sport are reporting that Frankowski and Musial - and a third individual - were caught allegedly stealing a ROAD SIGN by police in the early hours of the morning. They're reporting that both officials were arrested at 1.43am for 'destroying road infrastructure.' The men, who are reported as being intoxicated, were then taken to a sobering-up centre - which will cost them money as police charge for use. This is somewhere used by many places in Europe when the crime is deemed not serious enough to be banged up in a cell. Senior Superintendent Kamil Golebiowski said: "At around 1:40am we received a report of three men carrying a road sign down the street. "Police officers were dispatched to the scene. All of the men were intoxicated and had over 1.5 per milligrams of alcohol in their blood. They were taken to a sobering-up centre." Quote

Admin Phantom Posted August 13 Admin Posted August 13 The BBC will show highlights of the Champions League this season - with a special highlights show after this Wednesday's Uefa Super Cup. For the next three years, from 22:00 on the Wednesday of Champions League matchweeks, there will be match-by-match highlights available on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, plus a highlights show on BBC One at 22:40. There will also be clips online and on social media. The Champions League will have more rounds of fixtures than before with 17 in total. That includes eight rounds of group games - running from 17 September until 29 January - and then an extra round before the last 16.
