That sound you can hear is knives being put back into drawers, for now at least.

Pretty sure that’s the team most wanted (for the record I’d have started Williams), so be interesting to read the match day thread later if we lose away again.

I'll be blaming the press conference performance if we lose

Ditto.

Williams for Knight (as if that would happen).

But happy with that, no complaints at all.

Why oh why do people keep advocating a starting line up containing two specialist strikers up top? There’s hardly a team in the country that does this. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

To be fair someone on here suggested Max O’Leary should be dropped for the Oxford game.

I reckon that’s even less likely.

Well, he's gone with what most of us have called out for. Time to see how it transitions onto the pitch and he gets us playing. Attacking wise it looks good, need the defence to be more solid.

Glad to see Earthy back in the squad too!

I've gone with a 0-1 win. Coyr

I’d have kept him in as well. This will be type of game where we need his tenacity imo.  But it’ll be interesting to see how it works out.

So if we get pumped today we all officially don't have a clue! 😂

Teams that are 'poor'...

Hull because we nearly beat them - 12th position.

Millwall because we beat them - 14th.

Oxford because we beat them - 11th.

The only team we've played below us in the league were Coventry, who despite being 21st, everyone agrees are better than us.

:bonkers:

Hopefully Swansea will be rubbish and can be added to the list!

I said it last week, Oxford will struggle to pick up 15 points away from home this season imo. How they do will be totally dependent on their home form. I actually thing a pragmatic 0-0 at home to Burnley is sensible management, a bonus point for them, not sure you’ll get that pragmatism from our lot.

Possibly. I hope that doesn't apply to us too! A strong away performance today would be very welcome :city:

Good. He’s finally admitted he’s been picking the wrong set up so far this season . We got there in the end

So every time a manager changes their team they're admitting they got the selection in other games wrong?

What an absolutely bizarre take.

It's almost as if it's a squad game nowadays. Your logic is saying that Pep has "admitted he's been picking the wrong team" 6 times so far this season.

Bewildering, isn’t it?

Completely.

I get the marginal calls, say, starting Roberts or Pring, Fally or Sinclair, Sykes or Mehmeti but some of it is just bonkers.

Read another one saying that we should drop Vyner, at a time when neither Dickie or Atkinson are available for selection.

As you say, bewildering.

I wouldn’t.  Happy to say, I’d have gone with Knight and Bird today.

That's the spirit!

It's just a prediction for today's game; I think you'll find I've been more optimistic than most on here this season so far. There is a difference between wanting something to happen and thinking something will happen.

Yep and it’s fair enough.   Just think that Williams has been an easy target for some on here these past few games.   Appreciate that he doesn’t help himself sometimes but I personally think we need someone with that edge and just have to accept that sometimes that then comes with some consequences that may wind some people up.  Hopefully we’re not as soft as I think we may be without him.  Like I said already - it’ll be interesting and hopefully it works.

Sykes instead of mehmeti for me. He's got a brain. Him on right & Yu on left

Another where I’m happy to say I’d have gone with Mehmeti too.  Think he’s generally played decent this season

Totally agree.  He played fine last week too imho.

Yu and Tanner will be key as they tend to favour attacking that side. Need Twine to track back though as they stretch the pitch wide. Can't leave too much space centrally. Will he do so?

At this point I think Tanners one of the first names on the team sheet, we all know his flaws offensively but I can’t remember us having a better 1v1 defender in a long time. Have faith in him to shut down whoever he lines up against.

The populist team.

The correct team

And the right team

.................

Now we'll finally get to see how good a manning team with the right pieces in the right places is.

Not just today! But over next few games

..................

Modern managers tend to not like to play the populist team, but here we are! The best decision he could have made!

He now has a chance to see his idea actually put into practice. If this team can't do it, then the issue is the ideas! Quite simply the quality is there and in the right places.

One game is not the place to judge, but over the next 4 or 5 with that side, players in the right place, it's time for the best version of us to bring the fight.

Thought he was OK! Nothing more. Think Sykes has more quality and intelligence. Appreciate not been as good as he can be but think he'd be more on same page as twine & yu than mehmeti

Yeah, I’m the same. Mehmeti is too inconsistent for me where Sykes is a bit more savvy and better tracking back

Sod’s Law, Mehmeti goes and has a stormer today 🤔

Given the awful weather conditions and the fact it's a sort of derby match, I think I would have tried to find a way to get Williams in to my eleven, for his tenaciousness and general personality, if nothing else.

But, who would I leave out?

Probably Mehmeti, but then that would likely mean Twine slipping out to the left again.

A difficult decision and, should we lose, one that will probably bring some unfair criticism of Manning.

I hope he does. Just saying if I was the manager & had the two at my disposal I'd pick sykes.

Would prefer Naismith in for McNally and Williams in for Knight but at least Manning is actually taking risks now.

Still think our midfield is a soft touch and very slow. Knight can run and Bird can pass out and through well but I think we'll struggle to break things up without Williams in there.

When are we going to see what McGuane can do?

Still want to see a more conventional positioning of our LW (Mehmeti) so as to not expose Roberts and McNally.

Me too.

When Manning tries to be a smart arse and says Twine actually plays as a no10, he doesn’t mention how exposed the LHS.

Re goals conceded - “opposition have been clinical”

Easier to be clinical / create higher probability chances against weak points.

Yes. That looks the most balanced starting line up of the season so far

Really excited to see if 'Hero-kawa' hits the ground running and with less pressure on Mehmeti to be the sole provider I'm sure he'll shine.

Looking forward to the game. Only wish we were playing in RED (maybe Scott forgot to wash the kit)
