Bar BS3 Posted Sunday at 10:53 Share Posted Sunday at 10:53 The only problem with Swindon messing everything up.that season & failing to get promoted, despite celebrating it in November - was that ****ING Preston came up instead..!

Growing up in wiltshire in the 90/00s and going to school with a lot of Swindon fans… now seeing them go non league would be absolutely hilarious

To me they are clearly our 2nd rivals, none of this Cardiff nonsense. I have friends who are Swindon fans who are pretty sound, but the vast majority irrationally hate Bristol City. Sadly, they do have things to brag about which we don't have. I'd love to see them go into the non league for a bit though , have them mixing it up with Chippenham and Salisbury would be sweet

There would be no one I would think under the age of 40 who’d class them as a rival.

BS15_RED Posted Sunday at 21:14 Share Posted Sunday at 21:14 I despise them, the local news was full of them in the early 90’s, there was randomly a kid I went to school with that I couldn’t stand who supported them, their fans think one season in the PL and a winning the League Cup in 1969 makes them a much bigger club than they are. Then the aforementioned behaviour of the whole club on that day nearly 10 years ago cemented my intense dislike of them. Fingers crossed they do end up going out of the league!

The ground revamp and promotion while they have sunk have put us so far apart they’re not a rival in any sense of the word.
cidercity1987 Posted Sunday at 21:57 Share Posted Sunday at 21:57 They were always better than us when I was growing up in the 90s. Now they are just totally irrelevant, their fans don't even try to bother us

Clearly for most it's the sags then Cardiff, 3rd being up for grabs with Swans/Swindon/Argyle (even Yeovil for a brief period in the mid 00s). For me, growing up in Devon and studying in Cardiff, it will always be Sags, Cardiff then Argyle. Equally I can see why others would hold more against Swindon or Swansea

For years both clubs were of similar stature to be honest and battering them 3-0, refurbishing our stadium, seeing them rot in League 2 for years has put us out of touch with Swindon completely. Their fans can hold onto the 90s and a lucky league cup win in 1969, but that's all they've got. They wish they were where we were right now. Swindon were much bigger rivals to me growing up, because I knew so many of them, they generally they got the better of us and had their stint in the top division when we were kids. Our football team even had to wear their kit because the manager was an avid Swindon fan and had some connection so he got kits from them.

They were ever present against us in 90s and 00s. Rory Fallon has a special place in hell as well as far as i'm concerned. Ruined my school life for a long time.

Oizys Posted Monday at 10:10 Share Posted Monday at 10:10 It's a shame we never drew Swindon in a cup competition since that interview. A wildly popular song sang about them and yet never to them.

RedJim Posted Monday at 15:33 Share Posted Monday at 15:33 I grew up in Gloucestershire and was the only City fan in my school, amongst plenty of Swindon. They're on the same level as the Gas for me - properly hated them in the 90s/00s. I don't worry about them now as they're toilet and I've moved away, but as someone else said the name Rory Fallon still makes me shudder. Smashing them in 2015 was wonderful, but my bitter side wishes it'd been 10 years earlier - the Lee Miller miss in 2004 still hurts!

Quite a reputation but I've always thought it's ok). I've seen quite a few city shirts whilst stopping off there - and during my collage years knew a few city fans from that area. Think the City fans in Chippenham are older and just people have a relocated there in recent years Can't remember ever seeing city shirts there (80s / 90s) - always Swindon fans there and the same for Calne.

Plenty of City around Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury and Warminster area. John Atyeo was a local to this neck of this woods, taught many in Westbury and Warminster. Rail links that go direct to Bristol every half hour and is slightly closer to Bristol than Swindon.
