slartibartfast Posted Sunday at 22:50 Share Posted Sunday at 22:50 (edited) No, for once not talking about the slags, but Swans. Considering there was nearly 2k Gity there why was there only 16 thousand odd there, was there something else on or are they just fed up? I would have expected a near 20k for this one, it would have been at Cardiff v city ! Edited Sunday at 22:51 by slartibartfast
pillred Posted Sunday at 23:17 Share Posted Sunday at 23:17 (edited) I don't think apart from when they were in the Premier League they have been a well-supported club historically, I remember going there around 25 years ago and there were less than 6,000 at the game. Yes, so can I, come to that Cardiff for the City with about 3k, is 1.9 all they give to any away team, or just us ?

From what I can remember, their current ground holds around 20,000, so maybe they have to give us at least that, perhaps they give other clubs with less "history" more tickets. GrahamC Posted Monday at 06:21 Share Posted Monday at 06:21 They are a small club, massive catchment area (everything to the West of Cardiff) not that many fans. Punched above their weight in the Prem, similar size to Blackburn or Preston.

Small city maybe but a bigger club than we are. 1

2015 Posted Monday at 09:45 Share Posted Monday at 09:45 I'd say Swansea are a more iconic club than ours for a stint in the Prem and Europa League. Also a recent cup win. Not necessarily bigger, but more iconic maybe.

We really are not a 'big' club and will not be considered one until we reach the PL or win a major trophy. For a big support we have, we've little to show for it on the pitch.

Yeah dependant on who you talk to really but imo we are a small club in terms of achievements. Above average for support and infrastructure though and in the last two decades we are seen as less of a yo yo team and more of an established championship side. Swansea like Bournemouth were backed well and had a good strategy and it paid off.

Maybe left with the natural hard core support Swansea have always had. I remember till about 2008 they were a League one /two club who made their way up through good ownership and recruiting . It's a big area but I would guess in terms of population its probably bottom 6 in the division, I don't think their crowds are bad considering what they were before they moved stadium. Also from memory they didn't bring big numbers to AG last season either, always moving games to annoying kick off times doesn't help. They have brought decent numbers in the past few years, can’t remember how many last year though but in recent years cause more problems than Cardiff & Millwall put together , a fanbase stuck in the 80s &90s
Oh Louie louie Posted Monday at 14:34 Share Posted Monday at 14:34 Them and Cardiff used to get similar gates, and if they weren't playing a local team both were lucky to get 6000

Definitely have their fair share of mouthy teenagers. One of the worst things I ever seen was in a documentary in Swansea where there was a girl who was talking about the time she had sex with her own mum. After watching that I guessed it was a place with some issues.
Oh Louie louie Posted Monday at 14:47 Share Posted Monday at 14:47 Before Sam hammam turned up Cardiff even when we went there with 2000 odd gates were nowhere near five figures in the 80s and 90s and I can't recall many five figure attendees at the vetch in that period

Cardy Posted Monday at 18:56 Share Posted Monday at 18:56 Swansea is actually a really small ‘City’ - no more than a town really. Like others have said the Prem brought them an additional level of interest but as time moves on we are seeing their crowds fall well back in to the lowest third of the division. Never actually been there just held my nose going past it on the M4 but to be fair to them that towns identity is very much based on their steelworks and many people tend to work in places like that for life.
