582 City fans at Stoke on Tuesday night

I might be wrong, but I’m sure that there is a bit of clubs choice that goes into having longer distance games on weekdays. Lower level I think it’s about not having to pay for overnight stays, but it’s also around from the home teams perspective they will get bigger attendances for more local games on the weekend.

Maybe I should say Sunderland Middlesbrough Hull and Leeds, could be scheduled for Weekend games.

Been highlighted many times that clubs prefer these fixtures in midweek, exactly for the reasons below

Poor away attendance, I don't think the majority of City fans realise how easy it is to get to Stoke. Closer than Plymouth

It’s certainly close. Makes a mockery of the thought it’s a local derby.

If there were 4 more clubs between us and Plymouth no one would consider it any kind of derby.
In reality it’s quite a distance although I reckon easier to get to than Stoke away on a Tuesday evening.

tonight sheff weds took over 2000 to portsmouth ,amazing support

Huge club to be fair. Like Leeds, Sunderland and few others they seem to have decent numbers of fans living all around the country as well which helps.

It is true. But no one is working tomorrow

But didn't they bring those sort of numbers to us a couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday night ?

They've always had great away support far better than their City rivals

They somehow brought around 1500 for the game at AG during ‘the Beast from the East’ when there was no trains and people were told not to travel. They then had to watch their team lose 4-0 to us.

I used to have to travel to Macclesfield far too often. Passing stoke along the way.

This stat blew my mind.

So you can imagine my disappointment when I found out you lied by like 5-7 miles 😬🙃

Stadium to stadium - Plymouth is 8 miles closer

City centre to city centre it's like 7

I'm not angry , I'm just rather somewhat disappointed. I was looking forward to using that stat forever more.

Possibly you are confusing two games, mate.

I thought the disrupted travel game was many years ago, a 1-1 draw. Second half the wind was ridiculous & it sleeted.

The 4-0 defeat was when they were hit by an illness bug & tried to get it postponed, Bobby Reid got 2 or 3?

Don’t recall any weather issues that day?

Could be wrong of course.

The 0-4 debacle at Stoke in May would have been fresh in the minds of many regular away followers.

Only 5 away games between the 2 visits - no wins, 3 losses including comprehensive defeats at Derby and Blackburn.

Not surprising many may have decided to give a return visit so soon a miss.

2 long away trips in 4 days, plus as you say awful form away uptil Saturday.

Also wasn't pay on the night, may have put a few last minute travellers off - certainly put me off as I didn't know if I'd get back from work in time and I'm closer to Stoke

If the 1-1 draw was in the early 90s I remember it well as I was in the Open End freezing my nuts off. I’ve never been so cold since.

The 4-0 game in 2018, you’re right, Bobby Reid got a hat trick. Regarding disrupted travel, thinking back I think it was just general advice to not take to the roads unless necessary although by the Saturday morning all the snow that had been dumped on the U.K. 2 days prior (‘beast from the east) was starting to turn to slush and thaw. Loads of games were called off that day and ours was only confirmed as going ahead on the Friday. Great game from our point of view.

I was impressed with Wednesdays support that day especially the guy stood in the away end without his shirt on when everyone else was wrapped up 🤣

Yeah most of the snow had gone except for down here where we still had four feet of it on our road! It wasn`t passable till a local farmer cleared it with his tractor on the Sunday.

Think Treavor Francis might of played in that game.

I can’t remember the precise date or the score, but I do remember one Saturday afternoon match against Sheffield Wednesday - it may well have been the 1-1 draw to which you refer - when snow was already around, it started to sleet/snow and the announcement came over the loudspeakers that, due to the inclement weather, the last train back to Sheffield would be leaving TM at whatever time it was and anyone wishing to catch that train would have to leave at halftime.

I can still hear the chant of:

’One bed and breakfast, there’s only one bed and breakfast’.
