CHRISTMAS PRESENT APPEAL - PLEASE READ & SHARE

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

With Christmas now just over a month away, many of us are looking forward to a time of joy, celebration, and hopefully a bit of football. However, for some, the festive period can be a difficult time - as sadly not every child will wake up to a gift on Christmas morning.

This year, Section 82, in partnership with our club, Bristol City FC, is proud to support the Salvation Army's CHRISTMAS PRESENT APPEAL - https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/christmas-present-appeal. Our goal is to help them ensure that all children in our community experience the joy of receiving a gift this Christmas.

From the conversations i've had with the local 'corps' - last year there was a requirement for around 5000 households (these are referred through a combination of public services, schools, charities etc), of which they were able to fully support less than 2000...!

We’re therefore calling on all City fans, local businesses, and the wider community to come together and make a difference. Your generosity CAN and WILL bring smiles to the faces of children, who would otherwise go without…

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE:

• Amazon Wishlist: The easiest way to contribute is by purchasing gifts directly from our Amazon Wishlist - https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2BWI9OYFCF68B?ref_=wl_share, where items have been selected based on suggested criteria. All gifts purchased in this way, will be delivered directly to Ashton Gate (just make sure to select the ‘Gift registry’ address at checkout).

• In-Person Donations: A drop off point will be arranged for in-person donations at our home match v Plymouth Argyle on Sat 30th November. We will share these exact details, when they are finalised.

PLEASE NOTE:
We can only accept BRAND NEW (but unwrapped) gifts for children aged 0 to 18 (with a particular need for gifts for children over the age of 10).

PLEASE AVOID DONATING:

• Second Hand Items

• Items that require batteries

• Items that require Wi-Fi, a phone, or a computer to use

• DVDs or CDs

• Food items

• Candles

Every donation will spread some Christmas cheer to those who need it most. Let’s come together to show the true spirit of OUR club and OUR community.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Since launching last night, through our social media channels (Club support/awareness will be following too) there have already been several deliveries to Ashton Gate today - which is amazing! Please contribute if you can. But if you can't fiscally, i'd be very grateful if you could spread the word! (here's the links to our Facebook & Twitter posts, https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=539831242357868&id=100089929892188  /

Silly as it sounds, but if this is something you think you would like to get behind. Please keep 'engaging', both with this thread and on social media, to keep it visible for those who won't see immediately!

Any questions, shoot!

Generally I avoid charity that has an organised religion bias, however.....

There are items on the amazon wishlist that are currently in the black Friday sale. So if you are anything like me, might be worth exploring a little further.

After all, the kids who wake up with nothing are unlikely to think there is an almighty.

Learned a little about my own prejudice in making this post.

And because I have parked my bias, someone will be the beneficiary of 75 science experiments.

Education can be fun kids.

Who knows what'll lead to, training ground hamstring issues is my hope.

Appreciate this may be an observation/thought process noted by others too.

So for clarity, the reason I opted for the Salvation Army backed appeal, was based purely on the (potential) scale of the support that they would be able to provide in the local community.

The families they support/provide for, on the back of this initiative are those referred to them through local social services, schools and other council bodies etc. There are no religious connotations in the process at all.

Really appreciate your support!

Scalability is important, so I would hope people give up the cost of a couple of pints to support this.

Still not down with the God squad however. 🤪

Sorry, I only found out myself yesterday.

The collection point will be next to the ticket collections booth in the 'fan village', near to the Atyeo statue!

Thanks to all that have already contributed, and to those planning to do so in person today!

If we order a donation off of the Amazon wishlist, it gets dispatched directly to your collection point - is that right..?

That's it pal. Just make sure you select the "gift registry" address at checkout! And it will go straight to Ashton Gate
