Scrumpys Dietary Advisor.. Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) is something we badly need to attend. Not for the first time, we dominate a half of football and make Watford look like a pub team assembled at 30 minutes notice Numerous chances come and go and then we fall for the usual sucker punch from a speculative shot Hull, Swansea, Stoke and now Watford, and that's just away. Points thrown away, time and time again, it's getting really depressing Nahki has done a great job but how are our 2 new strikers supposed to build up any kind of momentum, rapport, confidence if all they get is bit part, 10-15 minute cameo appearances. We are WAY to passive at home and it is ridiculous to play cautious, holding football at home and only really attack when we're behind. Saturday was like a morgue at The Gate, until we started to play in the last 25 minutes We bought 2 strikers in the summer yet we insist on tying one hand behind our back by playing the away formation, AT HOME After recent events, I think most people want LM to succeed, but I am the most frustrated I've been in many years, to the point where I am considering Einstein's famous (misattributed) quote about doing the same thing and expecting change.... I feel a mixture of anger, frustration and sometimes despair at how this squad is being wasted. We should be at least 6 points better off and not be feeling like it's one step forwards and 2 back time and again AFter 50+ years of watching the City, my patience with the sheer mind numbing dullness of modern football is finally running out... And Its Smith Posted November 26 Posted November 26 I’ve said it for ages that even in the warm up our finishing looks poor. It’s surprising how many times shots are miss hit. Quote
Lew-T Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) I don’t think it’s the finishing that’s the problem. It’s our decision making, our final pass that usually lets us down. Often tonight we took too many touches in their final third not knowing what to do next. I don’t think we had many clear cut chances tonight, but just very good moments where we didn’t capitalize. Mr Popodopolous Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Reckon net in terms of less and more we could have another 3-4 points on balance this season, as there were games in which we were more clinical than our play deserved or similar. Quote
BeggyBlaggers Posted November 26 Posted November 26 It wouldnt even need to be a long course.... 'Get your ******* laces through it' would be a good starting point Quote

Ashtongreight Posted Wednesday at 06:41 Posted Wednesday at 06:41 We seem to be falling back to trying to walk the ball into the net. It’s like we’re trying to score the perfect goal. It may be coincidence but I noticed when Hogg took charge we seem more direct, and willing to both transition quicker, and be more willing to shoot rather than trying to walk it in. 1 Quote
sh1t_ref_again Posted Wednesday at 09:21 Posted Wednesday at 09:21 We do seem to always want a touch, rather than hit a ball that has been laid off 1st time, giving the defender chance to intercept or keeper to be set You need to just try your luck sometimes, rather than over working trying to create the perfect chance but we wanted to walk into the net. Watford's goal came from just having a pot shot, against Burnley in wet windy conditions, the perfect conditions for pot shoots we still didn't Twine at least when he came on the pitch last night was prepared to take a shot on and very nearly scored Quote
Jerseybean Posted Wednesday at 10:41 Posted Wednesday at 10:41 Ahead of the season starting, it was widely accepted that we needed to strengthen our forward line. We did this by recruiting Mayulu and Armstrong along with Yu. It was acknowledged at the time that all were players that needed further development and in the case of two of them acclimatization to the championship. With over a third of the season gone, it seems reasonable to conclude that we still have not got enough goals in this team. Seems to leave us with a stark choice of either chinning the season out and finishing mid to bottom half of the table or strengthening in January by spending money on a proven championship level striker rather than somebody with potential. I’m pretty sure I know which way this will go, which will mean another season of mediocrity. Furthermore, it could lead to some of our better players and I’m thinking of Knight and Bird in particular, deciding that their futures might be better served elsewhere. As it must be very frustrating for players who work very hard for the team to walk off game after game knowing that our lack of goals is a big problem. 2 Quote
robin_unreliant Posted Wednesday at 11:04 Posted Wednesday at 11:04 It feels to me like we have a lot of hard working, honest 'tidy' players. They can run, press and mostly pass to their team mates. It isn't surprising as that pretty much is the type of player they've been looking to recruit. However, most of the midfielders can't put in a decent shot most of the time. I don't think they are coached not to shoot, they are just not natural goal scorers. Twine seems to have been sought out as one who has that ability but I'm not convinced from what I've seen. At the end of the day you need to score goals to win. Our recruitment team have shown no real intent to bring in players with a track record of goals, even from a lower level. I feel a bit sorry for the coaching team who can only work with what they're given. We need to go out and specifically look for players with at least some record of scoring goals consistently. Don't believe Tinnion is up to the job myself. Quote

Well…….he is head of recruitment and the summer window was so-so with midfield additions but the signing of Armstrong was a serious gamble which so far has backfired and has Fally started a game yet? …. I think 6 points is a bit rose tinted tbh, 3-4 probably more like it as a net figure. If we look at us in isolation maybe 6+ points but if we look at some other big changes that our opponents had, could we have lost to Leeds Cardiff- dropped points vs Middlesbrough. Scrumpys Dietary Advisor.. Posted Wednesday at 13:44 Author Posted Wednesday at 13:44 Definitely 2 at Hull, 2 more at Stoke, should have been out of sight last night before Watford offered anything plus, a few more at home .. Quote

We were lucky to win at Middlesbrough in some ways, Oxford and Cardiff both hit the bar at 1-0..Leeds although we got a draw were better than us in a range of aspects. How often do sides win 3-1 with just 5 Shots on Goal (Preston)- not often not that they stretched us much. Think your post is possibly looking at us in isolation a bit. Norwich also hit the woodwork vs us early on at 0-0. Goals change games. Edited Wednesday at 13:54 by Mr Popodopolous Quote
