HengroveReds Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Great article here from Bentley - top professional top guy! Looking forward to his return on Saturday. Best keeper we’ve had in a while. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dan-bentley-opens-up-over-9844148 7 Quote
BCFCGav Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Best shot-stopper we’ve had in a while. Horrible from crosses. Watch him catch everything Saturday 3 Quote
1960maaan Posted January 7 Posted January 7 If it wasn't for the bungee rope that tied him to his line and the divers boots that stopped him going for crosses , he was indeed a great shot stopper . 2 Quote
And Its Smith Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Anyone booing him?! Some weird choices of who gets booed in the past so you never know Quote

GrahamC Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Good keeper, liked him. Max is his equal but good servant for us. 2 Quote
RoystonFoote'snephew Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Excellent shot stopper and solid in one on one's but for me he falls within that group of keepers who each game has always got a mistake in him. 1 Quote
Solent Robin Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Decent shot stopper, but stood rooted to his line too often. At least MOL attempts to command the box. Quote
Claverham_Red Posted January 7 Posted January 7 At 31 he should really be back in the Championship and playing games, somewhere like Oxford or Portsmouth, rather than a no.3 at PL level. Quote
Cole Not Gas Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Good keeper, like so many i have enjoyed them playing between our sticks. Personally think his quality and wages were one of numerous benefits Pearson had during his 3 years (yes, 3!) on a massive wage budget. Credit to Max for keeping more clean sheets and delivering better kicks as part of our current squad who look more likely to trouble the top 6 and on (probably) half the budget Fair Play to both keepers bit lets hope Max is the happier come Saturday at 2.15pm 1 2 Quote

He left in the downsizing in Janaury 2023 the final phases for FFP prior to Semenyo bring the final. Your recollections are amazing, we didn't really sign anyone for a fee from closure of the Summer 2021 Window to the sale of Semenyo in Janaury 2023. Bentley was a great Shot Stopper but should we have gone for Raya instead..his career speaks for itself. Edited January 7 by Mr Popodopolous 1 Quote
formerly known as ivan Posted January 7 Posted January 7 MO’L will never fetch the transfer fees Bentley did. £1m to Brentford then £2.5(?) to us. A reflection of their ability. 1 2 Quote

It's getting boring. 3 Quote

Started well but quickly lost form and too many errors that were part of the reason why we staggered in 21-22. His value (wages to return) were on par with the likes of Kalas, DaSilva, and Palmer, prevented Pearson from being able to more greatly cut the wage spending and to more ably change the club culture. At least the likes of Weimann and Wells continued to perform. Those two were assets. How on earth were his wages, effectively being wasted, of benefit to Pearson exactly? Inheriting an overpaid squad is detrimental. It's the opposite of a benefit. Such a weird take. The rest of it I agree with, but this is just a veiled dig at Pearson with absolutely no substance. 2 Quote

Mr Popodopolous Posted January 8 Posted January 8 It can do, if you are inheriting a cohesive high morale squad on high wages and your Cost v Revenue base can without FFP issues on the way. Otherwise it's a major hindrance. Quote

He is also the only Keeper I've seen back away from backpasses so much he looked terrified . 1v1 brilliant but rarely left his line. Max for all of his faults has a better all round game IMO. 3 Quote

REDOXO Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Great listen on SOTC. I noticed a lot of people saying stuff that implied he will play on Saturday up the thread. If I’m not very much mistaken he wasn’t even on the bench for Wolves on Monday. However he made a comment about getting a new three year contract at Wolverhampton. Good luck to the bloke. If he plays you know he will have a stormer. Quote

I'd argue he's probably the best in the league at it. Which is something that shouldn't be overlooked in Mannings system. Not defending his recent performances which should be better. Contrast - Bents was the best one-on-one keeper we've ever had. Just that, overall, I think Max is the better keeper. People forget quite how error prone Bents was. Way too erratic with his concentration. 1 Quote
