Is there a study on the psychology of fans and the acoustics of stadiums, the impact of bands, warm up music, previous results etc? Someone would have done a paper on this brb... nope./

From my memory it was pretty loud at Ashton gate the last time we had a semi final there

It was, even the Man City supporters commented on it on their various forums.

Quarter final was noisier IMO.

@Red Cyril 2

As in I reckon the game vs Man United was noisier and more rocking than the one v Man City.

Yeah tend to agree. I feel there was a  general feeling for quarter final & Man utd games that we would win which just was not there against Man City.

Nailed it.

Absolutely, had a certain belief in that.. Man City however were clearly the best in the country and right up there globally, as indeed in 2023 when we played them and despite losing 3-0 did ourselves proud as we did in 2018.

However yeah the context two legs, Man City and their brilliance (2018)..whereas Man United felt good but not imperious good.

Average if we’re being honest . I’ve watched that game back before and it really isn’t as loud as what our fans make out , just shows the atmospheres so bad at the gate that when it’s average people think it’s good .

The attendance has doubled in the last decade. Lots of new fans, some who will not be Bristolian. We also have, anecdotally, a very middle class support now.

Also the powers that be have repressed fan culture and not followed through on promises. We're still waiting for the rail seating in the Lower Dolman and the South Stand.

I’m not sure “watching it back” is helpful , the atmosphere via TV doesn’t correlate well with what it’s actually like in the stadium.  How did you feel about the atmosphere in Ashton gate for the Man Utd match?

Still don't know on Point 2 at what point clearance would've been given..Rail Seating is only a relatively recent thing- how long would it all take- unless you mean by powers that be, the Safety Advisory Group too.

Thought the atmosphere against united was good tbf , it would have been so much louder though if a whole end of the ground was stood chanting instead of just a corner .

I’m not sure that’s true. I was in the Dolman that game and the whole stand was up the majority of the game chanting and making noise.

I was also in the dolman and it was only the back 3 rows that stood everyone else was sat down

I don’t think you are a City fan, probably Rovers

So I’m a rovers fan because I said most of the ground sat down against united, which you can check by watching the full game back or just watching the highlights or vlogs on YouTube .

The atmosphere at the Gate reflects the mix of people who support the club and live in the city. There’s a balance between those from more comfortable, family-oriented backgrounds and a solid working-class fanbase. It’s never going to be as loud and intense as somewhere like Leeds, where they’re famously passionate and vocal, and football is one of the only things going on or something most people look forward to. But it’s also not as quiet or reserved as Fulham, where the crowd often treats football as more of a day out. We’re not great, but we’re not terrible either. Oh, and Manningball is boring as **** (results aside—we’re three points off the playoffs, so fair enough), but I don’t want to get too political.

Sat in the lower Lansdown Stand for a change today.  Unbelievably quiet in there.

TV today was very complimentary about the atmosphere at Ashton Gate, described it as usually a 'far from quiet ground'

Yep, sounded pretty decent on TV. First half Wolves were probably louder but second half it was nearly all City you could hear.

Must have been piped in sound then because the atmosphere today way strangely quiet.

Only the Scott Twine song around the goal & then a couple of "Red Army" renditions produced any noise atall.

Sat a bit closer to S82 today than usual & heard virtually nothing from there for most of the game.

A different experience to me. I normally sit in dolman b block and and I struggle to hear s82. Today I sat in lower lansdown and I thought they were very good. Kept going all game
