Spencer Posted Saturday at 17:08 Posted Saturday at 17:08 This is a terrible idea. Who do you think will start turning up - beery men making everyone feel uncomfortable shouting and swearing and not very interested in the match. Then familes and normal people will stop going because they feel unsafe and the womens game will be relegated to the training pitch round the corner. So stats say that young people dont really drink that much anymore so we will have to put up with drunk dribbling old middle aged men. This obsession with making money at every opportunity will be the ruin of good things. Drinking before the match and after is clearly not enough. How sad is this - why are you Bristol and all the others breaking something that's not broken. How pathetic. Brewery lobbyists win again. Football supporters of the womens game had a perfect environment which will soon be gone so enjoy it peeps while you can. 1 1 2 Quote

I'm in favour of it changing. I think football fans should be treated like adults. I also think that fans who want to sit an area where booze is not allowed ought to have that option. Football grounds are big enough to offer a variety of 'matchday experiences', so that each fan can choose what best suits them. I have suggested many times to the stadium company that they could relieve the stress of my 90 year old rugby watching Father having to stand up and sit down 20 times each half if they would just allocate an unreserved seating area around each of the entrances so people who want to go back and forth to the bar can do so without disturbing others, but have never had any response. bcfcredandwhite Posted Sunday at 21:08 Posted Sunday at 21:08 As a self-confessed beer monster, I’m not sure I like this idea. For me, personally it would be a positive thing because I could take my half-time beer to my seat and drink it leisurely, instead of slamming it down in 5 mins (which is why I don’t often bother) - and I happen to be blessed with a bladder that can hold back 4 or 5 pints before I need to open the valve, but it would probably mean more people constantly pushing past you all the time to go for a piss, or to get a refill, and getting showered with beer every time we score, as many posts above have said already. One thing though - this source from the Interweb states it’s the Championship - I assumed that would mean the men’s game(?) Quote

That is either vague or deliberately misleading - it's the Women's Championship that will be trialling this. Quote
Always Believesham Posted Sunday at 22:06 Posted Sunday at 22:06 The clickbait headlines are quite funny - I haven't read the random sports news sites that are phrasing it as Bristol City trialing it in the Championship. Whilst strictly true, they know exactly what they're doing and it wouldn't surprise me if men's football hadn't even been considered. @shahanshahan when you've been to the away games, are there many places that don't serve alcohol at all? I'm thinking certain away grounds in men's football regularly don't serve away fans alcohol - whether this is a trial before rolling out wider in the women's game or into men's football, there is so much more that could be open to interpretation & no doubt frustration to fans. I can understand why the women's game initially would have been reluctant to allow drinking in sight of the pitch at the top levels, while trying to build up a fan culture different. As for the speculation about the men's game... I think the genie is now out of the bottle, the culture is for a lot of fans to drink a lot pre-match and the concourse fills up at half time for a large number of fans getting a top up. I guess prices were pushed up in the ground to make more money and discourage fans from buying loads once in the stadium, which encouraged them to drink outside the ground. If it were to be introduced in the men's game, I agree with the suggestions that fans should be able to chose whether they want to sit in an area that allows alcohol or not. It would be really difficult to get right and I dare say in City's case the club are gradually tying different limbs behind their back which would make it nigh on impossible to get this right (away fans can only go in the Atyeo, No ST transfers to South stand, Safe standing in S82). I would also advocate for shutting the bar 15 mins into the game, whilst frustrating, it would reduce disruption in the stands. Not being able to have a drink on dedicated transport is out dated, those posts you see every week of a group of 6 lads with 48 cans & 3 bottles of Jagermeister for a hour long train trip will be an unintended consequence of this. If you're referring to the women's away games, then every concourse I went to pretty much had a bar of some sorts, but still couldn't take drinks to seats or stands because of the rules imposed by the league(s) Although City Women have two away games coming up at Birmingham & Newcastle, where the trial is happening also The other club (Southampton) we've already played away ay Quote
