bristolcityup
Yes I didnt like burnley atol, but I also didnt find the first City game at the Majeski too brilliant, having almost 9,000 reading fans just a few meters away from our end and only a few stewards on standby was a tad daunting! Robbored
Ninian Park has to be the most hostile ground that I've ever been to by far.It was bad enough when the visiting club had the whole away end but since they divided the away up into two sections its even worse. The Cardiff Police are the most intimidating lot I've come across as well. Despite the hostile atmosphere I still like going there.

Big Nose
I remember going to White Heart Lane and there were no "ends" - you could walk around the ground inside. There were constantly patrolling gangs who would ask you for a light to test your accent...... It was a bit hairy on the station going back too. Anybody remember the mid-week game a few years back ( 2-2 with Carey scoring his first goal for the City ) when there were running battles around the side-streets ? I can remember going down Oyster Road with some City lads from Chepstow , surrounded by debris such as bricks and scaffolding poles from where rival fans had been rucking earlier in the day. floridared
1976....................first year in the old 1st Div. Manchester City. That was a frightening place to go to. They would give you a corner of the Man City side so you were completly surrounded. Great way to enjoy a game!! Almost hoped City wouldn't score so as not to annoy the Mancunians. Also it was miles to the ground from the train station, and no friendly policemen to stop you being beaten !! But, as a lot of people say, Millwall is not a nice place. I kind of treated like my first skydiving experience, I tried it once, got away without being killed, and probably won't do it again !!

22A
No one has mentioned Wolves away. Oxford's Manor Ground was bad if City were winning. Walking out you'd have locals chant "Bristol, Bristol" at you to see if you'd join in; then they'd get you. I was lucky on my first visit. My mate Phil told me to get my scarf off and not to look glad at having won 2-0. When the locals came up to us, he shook his head and mumbled "United" and they let us go. As was posted some time ago, Blackpool in November 1972. No segregation and a Blackpool fan threw a brick at us whilst stood right next to a Copper. The City fan who merely tried returning the brick to it's owner got three months!

Did make me laugh when their ballboy fell over though and also, to get a draw there was good. Cardiff would come second, followed by Plymouth and then stoke from my experiences. leadman
burnleys a place were if you park on the cricket ground you allways see trouble, i remember cardiff in the 80s being a very easy place to go, you seen mostly city fans walking round the ground so a bit of a change there, millwall at the old then especialy when citys elemant turned up looking for trouble, mansfield in a night match years ago when there was building work going on and it turned into an artillary duel with rubble, crazyist would be reading that day the game was stopped for 20 odd mins
Guest lydneyred
The Old then was never the best of places to visit, especially if you had won. Guest devonred
wembley! the england scotland game when the place got trashed, all the fans were mixed in together yet if you were english you kept your mouth shut, the guy behind me got smacked on the back of the head by a thrown cider bottle and fireworks were landing all around causing us to scat like a grenade had been chucked, afterwards the rozzers charged us with the horses for doing absolutely nothing but wait in a queue for the tube... dunno what old trafford's like now but the away fans used to have a tiny section surrounded by home fans that looked pretty scarey, some grounds i've seen home fans attack each other for not being the right kind of fan...Elland Road for one saw celtic play out in dortmund a few years ago and stood in the celtic end which was pretty entertaining but then half the IRA was in the same end judging by the flags being shown which could have had something to do with it, but definately the worst ground i've been to has to have been boca juniors ground in argentina, it was a local derby which most of them are but this was the first game for years that somebody wasn't killed at, the cheap seats (standing) at the bottom has one set of fans but over them are an opposite set, neither of them can see each other so it is a case of chuck something and see if it will hit someone, you keep your mouth shut as well or risk having your head kicked in for the wrong opinion by your own fans, even getting tickets we took an armed taxi driver as the bloke the week before had had their tickets taken from them at knifepoint just after they had bought them... saying all that i wouldn't have missed the experience for the world

Guest billybob
Millwall. When Scott equalised in the last minute they went absolutely beserk. A couple of hundred knuckle dragging cockney neanderthals were baying for blood outside. The police were brilliant but scarey - "all bristol supporters stay in the light, dont stray from the path" it was like a cross between An American Werewolf in London and Jurassic Park........ Guest Harry May
Big Dave - you were in the home end for that match ? You must be a braver bloke than me ! I think that was the game when a police dog got blinded ( By Swansea fans trying to get to us after the game.) I can remember being herded down a side- street surrounded by loads of Riot Police with the spotlight from the police helicopter shining down on us. We got back to our car ( eventually) and all the cars around us had either had the windows smashed or tyres slashed . As ours had a Chepstow car dealers sticker on the rear screen they must have thought we were taffs. It was a real throw back to the 70s . As far as Ashton Gate being intimidating , alot of Cardiff supporters I know , feel the same way about going to AG as some City fans feel about going to Ninian Park. Remember when we played Crewe a few years back in Division 1 , when we won 5-2 ? It was cold, wet and drizzly plus we only had about 9,500 in attendance . But the support that day was fantastic . A Crewe fan rang into 606 ( or whatever it was called at the time ) and said it was the most intimidating match he had ever been to, with vociferous and hostile support. That was when Colin Cramb hit one of their players in the first 30 seconds of the match with one of the hardest tackles you can imagine - right infront of the Dolman . It fired everyone right up - like Sharks in a feeding frenzy . I can 't remember the last time it was like that at the Gate . Perhaps the Millwall home game on the Friday night. Caldicot Red. Guest knapster
My mate always sed that Millwalls ground is quite by far the 'most threatening' he's ever been to, even though i've never been to verify that, the amount of accounts i've seen on here or read( Dougie Brimson books) about the old then have seemed quite 'threatening.' Also my dad, ( being a glory hunter! ) has taken me up to old trafford a couple of times and fights aplenty have happened after the game between arsenal fans and blackburn aswell, walking babck to the coach park. knapster

Guest WillsbridgeRed
Thinking about it, Leicester last season was rather naughty. Walking out the ground I asked a copper if there was a escort back to the station, and found myself bundled into a group of around 20 City lads who were facing of with the police, all of who had riot gear on and batons drawn. I did chuckle that the police vans had spotlights aimed at us - My maglight has more power! For the 20 or so of us who were escorted back, the main road to the station was completely closed for the duration!
Port Said Red
I remember going to Edgeley Park Stockport when it is was all terracing, halfway through the 2nd half their "crew" walked around the terracing so they were facing us. They started chanting "20 minutes to go before we kick your heads in", and continued counting down as the game progressed. We had to walk out of the ground and across the road to a car park behind the shops, as we were approaching the car a group of City boys came running past us and jumped in their car. They were followed by a group of around 50/60 Stockport lads who proceeded to smash every window and panel in on their car. The police turned up two minutes later and they all wandered off as if nothing had happened. Not suprisingly I always give a little cheer when I see any Stockport defeat. Guest Harry May
That story about Stockport does n't surprise me in the least . I think it was about 3 years ago , we went to Boundary Park on the train - it was just after they had the race riots up there . We won the game 1-0 , with Murray getting the solitary goal. We got the train from Oldham back to Manchester , only to find our train was delayed . We thought we had time for a pint or three. For some reason , that day we had n't done our homework . We did n't know that Stockport were playing home to Man City . Went in to the pub in the station , where we were immediately spotted . A few lads came over , who were bruised and cut , and asked who we were . Told them we were Bristol City , and they seemed to relax and started chatting . They were Stockport County lads who had been rucking with Man City . After a couple of pints with them , all hell brakes lose. A group of about 20-30 Man City fans complete with British Transport Police escort walk along the platform outside the pub. These Stockport lads were vastly outnumbered but went straight through the escort and into the Man City fans. Totally bonkers . Caldicot Red.
