Notts County....memories

My first memory of Notts County was of them giving City a "guard of honour" as we came out for our last home game of the '76 promotion season. Then they beat us, but, IT WAS OUR YEAR ! Still, nice touch.

Jan. '84 F.A. Cup 3rd Round. Memories of great support and a terrific game, we was robbed. Goals from Alan Crawford and Tom Ritchie, I think. Can't remember losing the replay 0-2, funny that.

Nov. '02. The abandoned game. Losing 1-0 and not looking like we'd come back, then the deluge. Winning the "replay" and thinking, maybe it is our year !!!!

Aug. '03. New season, sun out and WALLOP !! 5-0 and thinking, maybe it is our year !!!! Note to self:- I must stop thinking that.

Oldest league club, the Juventus shirt story,Trevor Christie, John Cedozee(sp), Rachid Harkouk(sp again) and Steve Cherry (GK) who also seemed to play a blinder against us.

These are mine, please share yours..............

The old away bank, behind the goal.

When fans used to stand near each other & trade pleasantries. :Hmm, yeah that's really funny Tarquin.:

As for on the pitch memories. Well as you know NATCHER the old grey matter is going & memories ain't what they should be.

Remember going to watch a game with Paul Stevens Dad (freebies!) - but can't remember nowt about the game.

I am getting a sad old B@rsteward. :D

The old away terracing, with the fenced-in pens, the local old bill ejecting / arresting loads for swearing........

That new stand is much better and they sell beer.....(but IIRC the seats were bloody dirty last time I was there)

Drawing 0-0 in the 89/90 promotion season

Never having seen City win there........hope that changes Saturday!!!!!

losing 4-0, David Moyes looking awful (think it was one of his first or the first game?) 1985, who'd have thought eh? Everton and all that...he was a cr*p player....Brian Williams sent off???

Terrible.

The evensong emanating from Lichfield cathedral on the way home brightening the day, a few beers helped too.

Where were you Wolfie?

Oh the 76 promotion celebration....

How can anybody forget Tristan Benjamin's long range exocet that Eastend SuperCash tracked every inch of its 45 yards travelled whilst holding his raised hands that quarter inch wider than the circumference of the ball. At that moment was born the habit, most commonly practiced by Seaman these days, of the keeper standing stock still, eyes straight ahead, forever frozen in time whilst the ball rolls around the net.

Also memorable was an early 90's fiasco at their place when we were 'cruising' with time running out & then in best City fashion contrived to spectacularly chuck the game away in the last three minutes. We lost in late injury time when their keeper wellied the ball the length of the pitch to big Dave Regis who, courtesy of an 'after you, Sir' offer from our defence, applied one hefty, yet uncultured, touch & stuck it away.

My earliest memory was of them always being in Div 4 whilst Forest (only a pitch away) were in Div 1. Why did anyone become a County fan?

In the 75/76 promo season, we all thought City would go there and settle for a draw. City then took the lead but the game ended 1-1. The return at the end of the season has been mentioned; we were already promoted and lost 2-1. In the Div 4 days, they were in Div 1. We went there inthe FA Cup and drew 2-2 but lost the replay 2-0. Cider Gliders mentioned that 4-4 draw. The return at AG was 2-2 despite City being all over them. Their manager then stated City were lucky not to lose! Finally a statto on the radio reckoned if you want end of season excitement, buy a Noots Co season ticket. In 14 seasons, they were either promoted or relegated 11 times.
