the_real_city
Just wondering, what position in Div 1 right now do you predict Bristol City would be in if promoted? Do you think if Bristol went up they'd be whipping boys, mid-table securicors, or challengers like Cardiff and Wigan this season after promotion. And it can't be just money that makes pro-promotion success, look at Crewe, they're doing well. Thanks.
RedTauntonian
I reckon that we could finish at least 12th or round about there, we matched crewe last year and beat cardiff twice, also we saw off watford at the start of the season, so i think we would be quite capable of a mid-table finish, quite easily, providing, we signed 2 or 3 players, striker, right winger, and a centre back, i know we have a very good defence, but think in div 1, we would need some extra cover, case we were hit with an injury to colesy or matty hill, or any other in fact. screech
With the same team you mean, I have no doubts that we would be looking at a quick return downwards, we can't score regularly and can't defend set pieces, have no pace in the middle of midfield, can't hold on to the ball up front, but apart from that we aint bad, but I still think we will be coming straight back down unless there are some big changes. *Edit *Forgot to add. Oh and we have a keeper who is scared of coming off his line.

screech
Amazing were in 3rd in the table with a team like this one! :Hmm, yeah that's really funny Tarquin.: We have scored the fewest goals out of all teams in the top six and most of the division, we have conceded a glut of goals from freekicks/corners, Tommy D, Tins, Burnell and Wilkshire are hardly blessed with pace are they, Peacock has abysmal control, and Phillips doesn't command his area, just to sum it up for you. Spud55
With the team we have now, i think we would be bottom of mid table area, around 13th or so. had we gone up and kept Murray, then i think we would be in a similar position to what you are now really. I have seen you on telly a few times and live at Np once, and from what i have seen, you aren't really that much if any stronger than last season, just thorne has started scoring a bit more now. RedTauntonian
I think we have the best defensive record in this div though, so if we were to concentrate on set plays more, then surely thats that sorted, are midfield, isn't the quickest no, but with goodfellow and roberts in it, think that would sort it out, who says peacock has to play, step forward miller, and lita, and think u'll find phillips has kept us in games a fair few times this season, remember peterboro at home, saved a penalty in the 4th minute, i know we drew, but hadn't he of saved it, we proberly wouldn't have that point . screech
Yeah agreed, I think we are a good side in this division but IMO we have lots of things to address if we were in the 1st divison, much better league than it's been given credit for, we would have to finish off teams, we certainly couldn't expect to sit on a goal lead for instance, I don't think we have the personnel here at this moment to survive a season, but as a 2nd div side we are fine. wesco
Whe nwe went up last time I thought we would be ok and finish about mid table but this time round the team maybe better but so are the ones in the next division. Personally I think unless some money was spent or some good dealing took place we would struggle

cider head
i feel our style of play is better suited to the 1st division than this kick and rush crudd we play against and i feel we would do what reading, cardif and wigan are doing now flirting with the play offs or just outside them, we would do well WE JUST HAVE TO GET THERE ... Screech, Spot on with the current team we have... a DECENT striker is needed and cover for midfield (Central midfield now Mr Goodfellow & Robbo would appear to be the wingers)and defence too, and a bit of competition for Mr Phillips would do no harm We should release Peacock, Matthews, Carey, Doherty, Bell, Stowell, Marvin to help get the players we need in. Feel free to add others.......
Guest redrobin108
We only have to look what happened last time we got promotion. We must strength the squad, otherwise it will be the same as the last time we were in the 1st Div. But lets hope the cat puts up a better fight than the pigs will against the wolves
Guest BTR_FTG
Unless the day after we gain promotion the 'FIRE SALE' notices go up at The Gate we'll be dead certs for relegation. BTR FTG

Sorry to pee on your fireworks but last time we went up we spent the best part of three million quid - and came straight back down. Personally i think we could have let the lads that got us up have a chance in Div 1 but the biggest mistake was wasting money on strikers without replacing Shaun Taylor. Port Said Red
or challengers like Cardiff and Wigan Just wondering if you really still consider yourselves challengers? The fact that you are 3rd from bottom on current form and some of you want to sack the manager, suggests that you had the kind of flying start that some promoted teams get and are now holding on for grim death as you slide down the table. You are still 12 points from "gauranteed safety" and a couple of injuries to key personnel could cause you real problems.
the_real_city
Cardiff have got loadsa injuries! We went on our best spell with 17 fit players! Another thing.. In Div 2 last season.. Cardiff were the only team not to have been beaten by Wigan or Crewe(2-2, 0-0 w/Wig, 2-1,1-1 w.Crewe). This season we thrashed Crewe 3-0 and unluckily drew with a good Wigan side. I truely believe that us and Wigan are of the better teams this season. Cardiff are the tops scorers and have two scoring strikers in Earnie and Thorney (sorry, you prob dont wanna here his name;)

BS3_RED
I've just been chatting about this in the pub. If I'm honest and i can be sometimes, i think we will come down faster than we did the last time. I think Div-2 is very poor this season, which explains how we can be third in the table, when we hav'nt really played well all season. I think that unless some proper money is spent we will struggle from the opening day. I hope I'm wrong but i dont think so.
Guest cidered
If we go up we will need to spend money to stay up fact we need a proven goalscorer and maybe 1/2 new defenders i feel are midfield is fine with goodfella coming in now.Last time we spent alot of money on strikers we dont need to do that. Guest KingswoodRed
I'll go for (lack of multi-millionaire intervention accepted), with same"ish" squad, Second bottom. With Stoke to be bottom. Anyone offering odds?
bobby
On the optimistic side I'd say mid table, on a bad day, maybe just escape relegation. I do believe we would not come straight back down again!
