Surely the team that has lost out the most this pre-season is Swindon. They may well have Parkin for half the fee we get for Lita who has been doing the biz for 2 years less! Cheer up guys, we still have a good attack but just need a good centre back and left winger to have a decent go of it.

The fee is undisclosed so how do you know what we are getting?

I don't see how a dig at Swindle explains to other people how good a deal we are getting.

Very strange.

I'm not having a go at Swindon. The fee is obviosuly going to be more than what we turned down before-700k. Thta is already much more than what Swindon got for Parkin. I'm merely trying to highlight we have got a good deal whatever the price. Not strange at all.

why start the topic based on us then?

Just using you as an example of how we have doen well in the Lita deal. As I have always said, Swindon are not rivals, I don't mind Swindon. I just feel that maybe Swindon might be a tad disapointed that we are getting more for a 'one-season' wonder. Take it as a dig if you want- it's not though!

I agree with Alex. Not knocking the Swindon, even though it is easy to do now and will be even easier when they get relegated this coming season, just pointing out some facts.

Yes, we are getting moe then the £700k that was knocked back, simple to work that one out.

I say well done to the board for selling at the right time and well done to Tin's and everyone else for developing such a fab player. Biggest well done to the congo warrior himself. Big up to Leroy whether he stays or goes.

The fee for Parkin was undisclosed but includes a sell on. We haven't lost out as we've used his wages to get Thorpe and Cureton and also signed other quality players with Gareth Whalley signing today. http://www.swindontownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/p...~684150,00.html

Whalley being one of the star players for Bradford when they got to the premiership.

We had Parkin for three years - far longer than most were expecting and as he was very honest and said he wanted to play in the championship next season and if he we weren't promoted he'd be moving on so it was not a shock when he left, everyone wishes him well for the future and there is no hard feelings.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing Lita as you'll probably be signing more players this summer and you've probably got a decent fee but I'd rather have the three years of goals and still make a tidy profit personally - that's not losing out.

Fair points. I would say that Cureton and Thorpe won't replace Parkin but that's just my opinion. I've heard good and bad about Whalley- may be a useful player in this league. Still haven't seen anything to suggest you will finish higher than last season.

Can we have a separate forum for Swindon bashing so the rest of us don't see the main forum clogged up with this nonsense? wink.gif

I'm not bashing Swindon- STILL. Just highlighting that we have done well if we get, as reported, around 1m. Just look at the Parkin deal.

He's not having a go at Swindon at all. He is making a fair point that we look as if we'll get 800k odd up front and loads more to come for Lita, who as it stands is a one season wonder, while Swindon got less for a player who has proven that he can score a lot of goals. So on the pure face of the deals we have got more than Swindon have they have lost a more proven player than we have, for all we know had Lita stayed he may not have done anywhere near as well as he did last season, while you can guarentee 20-30 goals out of Parkin.

Swindon won't go down. They will be about 12th again.

That's quite a long way away from relegation certainity though. I doubt we'll get promoted but I'd stake everything I own on us being nowhere near the relegation zone in the latter half of the season.

Anyway, you're right about Lita - you got a better deal for a less proven player at this level. Bear in mind that both Parkin and Lita are unproven in the next league up and might not perform anywhere near to the standards they've shown at our respective clubs. I have to admit that whenever I've seen Lita he's been useless so I'm presuming Reading's scouts didn't see him play against us. I'm just speculating, but I imagine the reason Lita has probably gone for more than Sammy did is because he's got pace.

He had the best chance of the game at the County Ground when your keeper made a brilliant point blank save. Didn't play as well as he normally does but always threatens even if he doesn't score.

The only reason we weren't able to get more for Parkin is because he had a minimum release fee clause in his contract that Ipswich met. Otherwise we would have gotten more for him, as like you say, he's been banging in the goals consistently for the past three seasons.

Yep totally agree. Your board is obviously as stupid as ours in some repects!Edit: I don't hate the board but just feel that they could have tied up the Lita and Anyinsah deals earlier!

Two problems with your argument.

1 - We don't know what the Lita deal is worth

2 - We don't know what the Parkin deal was worth

Makes the rest of the discussion seem a bit pointless really doesn't it?

As far as other goings on at Swindon are concerned I think you'll find most Swindon fans are feeling happier and happier as the season approaches. The new squad looks to be a big improvement on the old one, even without Parkin. smile.gif

I remember Lita's effort at the C.G.

It was arguably the only time he managed to break free from Jerel Ifil and YES, it was a truly brilliant effort from point blank range. It was matched by a brilliant save from Evans. Probably the highlight of the whole game.

li'l sharpy says SWINDON ARE A LOW RATED TEAM , even we finished above you  rofl2br.gif and with an unprofesionnal manager[no offense Tins] party-smiley-012.gif  party-smiley-003.gif  party-smiley-027.gif

YUP! Over the last ten games of last season, we WERE crap! Lost any chance of a play-off place owing to players who lacked passion, desire and commitment.

Who were the offending players?

Brian Howard - now gone to Barnsley

David Duke - probably joining Darlington

Sammy Igoe - gone to Millwall

Matt Hewlett - gone to Torquay

Grant Smith - joined you lot

Matty Heywood - joined you lot

Rory Fallon - still with us but now having serious competition for a place.

Every one of those departing players has been replaced by a new signing with greater talent and/or greater experience.

e.g. Cureton, Thorpe, Whalley, Smith, Shakes, etc, etc...

All things considered I don't think anyone who actually knew what they were talking about could really claim we have been losers this summer. Roll on August 6th

Oh dear I think our squad this coming season is better and stronger than it was at the beginning of last season.

Parkin's departure is the major factor here and ALL the other players we've lost have been replaced pretty well, if not better, by Andy King... We won't know how much we'll miss Parkin & Co until the season is under way

(same applies to you in regards to any player you've lost)

god more garbage being spouted from swindle AGAIN! city.gif whalley is over the hill as is thorpe and cureton.. the reason is that none of the players get on with king so thats why they left, he ouldnt even manage his own finances let alone a football team and i use that term 'football team' very loosely online2long.gif

I'll go against the grain here and say I think witrecent signings they have a strongerh their team than last year.

It appears that their manager (Whatever you think of him) has contacts throughout the game and puts thenm to good use

Untrue. Heywood and Andy King are still big golfing buddies. Hardly sounds the relationship of two people who don't get on!

Heywood had been a Swindon a long time and felt he needed a change. Good luck to him.

As for Grunt Sniff. He had a few good games and now he thinks he's Pele! Don't get me wrong, he has a sweet left foot but there isn't much else in his locker! And whatever you do, don't let him take any penalties. He couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo from the penalty spot!

I think letting Heywood go to Shitty is the best bit of business done by Andy King! Now, when we go down to the gate, we'll beat them by more than the 2-1 we managed last season!

Well done Heywood, you've gone to Shitty to give us a better chance of promotion! I hold my hat off to you sir!

That's just nonsense. Whalley is 31 and a superb player who has played a part in five promotions before and he's done extremely well in the championship and played in the premiership. Given a choice between him and Grant Smith I would take Whalley every time, he'd get in your side no trouble. Cureton is only 29 so again over the hill is ridiculous.

As for "none of the players getting on with King", you are well wide of the mark. Parkin got on very well with King and thats why he stayed so long, Heywood likewise has King to thank for rescuing his career. Hewlett, Robinson and Howard weren't even offered contracts.

And then you claim King couldn't even manage his own finances....we've made a profit from the players he's brought and sold and he's bought in 20-25+ goal a season strikers like Mooney and Parkin for a combined total of 50k and on one of the smallest wage budgets in the league. On a tight budget you will struggle to find any better managers than King.

Good luck next season with Heywood.....hopefully he'll play as bad for you as he was for us!

one of my friends is a son of one of the coaches at ipswich and they paid out £750,000 for parkin with a clause included into this aswell.

cureton will be a fantastic for swindon , thorpe is good but nothing on what he use to be and he and curo are to similar.

wish swindon would actually do well, boring not having any local derbies
