tompo
Can comparisons be made between Ashton Gate Eight and some current Leeds players. The Ashton 8 tore up their contracts to save City. Leeds players are fighting efforts to get them to take a temporary pay cut. The club has to raise £5 million and hoped to raise some money by appealing to players to take a wage deferral. The money would be reimbursed at the end of the summer. I suppose if you employ a lot of mercenaries then they will be looking after their best interests and not those of the club. Quite a few of the Ashton 8 were local. On the other hand I suppose the Leeds players are thinking they may not get the money if they agree and have to think of their futures. It is a difficult one to call.

Guest eviltaxman
What I want to know iswhat the hell do they spens their money on each week??? If you're paid £60,000 per week, within a couple of months the mortgage is paid. Then come the sports cars.... also paid up within a month or so. OK, some Prem players alledgely have drug/drink/gambling problems, but it's not all of them. I'd kill to be paid a year what they have stopped in tax a week. If you've been paid 60k a week for 3 months (12 weeks) you've received £72000 before stoppages, unions subs etc..... surely they have enough "tucked away for a rainy day" to live on for a few months whilst on a measly (spell check?) 40k a week. Oh the hardship!!! I've worked for the Government for 15 years and I'm still only on 16k a year! As mentioned above, unfortunately it's albout money and me me me, no longer the club. Selfish @£%($"!! A Horse With No Name
If you've been paid 60k a week for 3 months (12 weeks) you've received £72000 before stoppages, unions subs etc..... surely they have enough You mean 720,000 surely? Anyhow, these are working men you are talking about. Put yourself in their position. If your company approached you to take a rather large pay cut, indefinitely, I can guess what your answer would be. Basically, you have to look after number one, and I can well understand these players fighting for their money.
Guest cider gliders
They Leeds players don`t give a toss about the club! If leeds went bust, they`ll just move on somewhere else to pick up there money! Thats the way of the world with football today! The Ashton 8 thought of the club before themself`s! That lot at leeds an the rest of the prem players would never do that!
Taz
I'm sure that in this day and age, if the Leeds players cared that much for the club that they play for, then they could quite easily make contributions from their own pocket to help their club. Unlike in the 1980's, footballers are paid a hell of a lot more, and I'm sure that most would not miss a couple of hundred thousand.
fct
I agree; the Leeds players on their overinflated fat wages ought to help matters; after all, its their #### perfomances that have put the club in relegation trouble! A pay cut would help but if they're so damned selfish and spoilt and couldn't handle going down to a more sensible wage then i hope sincerely that they end up out of a job and nobody comes for them. Then where will they be? Crying to their agents no doubt who'll tell them to ######* off in reply, being the kind of people agents are.
Lordofthebling
looks like they are selling smith anyway... Thing is, they will get an investor - in the ashton 8 times the players ripping up the contract was the last resort - or we would have been no more - simple as. Leeds will probably sell smith, and get a shiek in to buy the club, but i still think they will go down - its if this is the end of leeds as a big club - will they go the QPR or sheffield wednesday route? Who knows? But 83 million is a lot of debt...
fct
It is a huge debt, but I've no sympathy, they spent silly money and look where it got them.... A LESSON TO ALL THOSE FANS WHO CRITICISE OUR BOARD FOR NOT SPENDING.
bcfc seattle
It seems everyone is concentrating on the players. Have the directors and coaches taken a paycut? If they have (I don't really know) then the players should as well, but if they haven't...
