Silly Question?

Its such a thin line between success and failure for managers.

There are very few managers around that have every fan exclaiming "he's a great manager" all of the time.

I mean even Ferguson, Wenger and Sven get plenty of stick for some of the decisions they make. The fact is that no-one is perfect, look at managers of any company or in your workplace, they make plenty of mistakes.

ole Fred Ford was well liked during his time as

manager! He was a gentleman that bloke.

But once you start losing loads of games, the

fans want you out, no matter who you be! :D

I think Joe Jordan, 1st time around, definitely. Other than that, John Ward. Our promotion season was some of the best football I have ever seen City play, and in our Div 1 days, he just needed some help, not the sack. Most people loved John Ward and were very sorry to see him go.
i would of said John ward a well respected manager

fully back what redsince70 said, apart from I think Jordons side first time round was better to watch then Wards team.

Jordon left for Hearts when we were in the best position and with the strongest side I have seen. there weas no complaints at that time, but no forum either!!

losing Ward was the worst thing to happen to city in the last 10 years.

The Cider Gliders mention that gentleman Fred Ford and he was. When he was sacked, according to Peter Godsiff's book, City approached Frank O'Farrell who was manager of Torquay. He declined the offer because he disapproved the way Ford was sacked. Oddly enough, Ford had tried, but failed to sign Kellard and Skirton yet both later played for City under Alan Dicks. When promoted, Fred Ford stood back from the publicity shots stating it was the players who had achieved promotion. Was Ford too much of a gentleman?

Good post, best times I can remember except Div 1 days, there was a buzz, and spirit about the Gate then, although, when Wardy did the circuit after the last game, my missus did say the players didnt appear to give a ****, while Wardy was proud as punch, and loving the occasion, looking back, she might be right, but they was good times, shame Wardy never cut it in Div 1, and Big Joe was lured away by Hearts?

More by the lure of managing a club in the Scottish Prem (and Hearts were half decent then) being, in his opinion, his best chance of being given the international job if/when it came up. He had a bloody good team with us first time round.....the foundation of which though I believe was built by Coops.
