compostcorner
my friend who goes to liverpool matches says that most away supporters at anfield always stand up, i watched the game against newcastle, and sure enough all the newcastle fans,( about 5000 ) were stood up all through the game. so whats all this nonsense that the directors of this club come up with for not standing in the east end, its a legal requirement apparently, well if liverpool can get away with it in the full glare of television cameras everyweek, i cant see why we cannot stand in the east end. Stoke_Gifford_Red
It happens at all grounds, particularly amongst away supporters.
wesco
The lower league clubs seem to get punishe for it, all the premiership clubs have areas where standing occurs for 90mins. Liverpool, Man utd and Arsenal, on my visits both home and away fans have been standing

22A
Don't bame City for this but the Council. The Council will revoke City's safety certificate if fans are seen standing in an all seater stadium. Thus to keep AG open, the club has to instruct their Stewards to ensure we remain seated. At least I think that's the story.
BS3_RED
Manchester United nearly had a part of Old Trafford closed down because of persistent standing last year. I can remember reading about it.
Spud55
It is not citys fault. The club have to be seen to be doing something about the "problem", otherwise the council will get arsy as they haven't got a clue or a care about sport in our fine city. As for Man U they have had problems, Liverpool won't could you imagine the uproar in liverpool if the council did anything ?
ballwinningcentrehalf
I think that standing for sustained periods in seating area should be stopped in football. I'm one of those who would love to stand in my spot in the Dolman for the 90 minutes without hassle, but i know its not really possible. However i will continue to try and stand for as long as possible to attempt to create atmosphere- it needs the club to do something proactive like re-introducing a section of terracing for home fans to stop it at a much larger scale. If this was done it would allow those that want to stand (like myself) to move somewhere where we can do so, while leaving the rest able to enjoy the match in their seats. As for away fans at matches it seems an unwritten rule that they be allowed to stand- and i like it that way. I'm sure most that go to these games will say they prefer to stand, and i think its fair away fans be allowed to do this. I often hear the 'away fans standing excuse' in the Dolman when we are told to sit down, but if we made those sit it would probably have a knock on effect to those City fans that travel away- forcing them to sit etc
Guest WillsbridgeRed
There is clearly a desire for standing in every club, not just ours and maybe it is time to look into terracing. Standing areas ARE safe if they are well controlled and have easy exits onto the pitch which obviously wasn't the case when metal fences were erected
22A
It was annoying at Rushden to see a newly built stadium with terracing provided for home fans, but not the visitors. But it does prove that terracing is not illegal in new grounds.
