Terracing

Putting the terracing back.

It's all about money! If you think about it, if they put terraces back, they would have to drop the price by £3 - £4 per game, 23 games at home in a season and just as many fans, they would lose a bit wouldn't they?

Plus, it would cost a small fortune to get it renovated, city are already £3m + in debt.

Think about it.

Thats a good point made, for a club with so much debt it would be commercial suicide to spend money on the stand when overall they are going to lose money on it anyway......

and even if they did take out the seats, when the club get into the premiership (which i am dam sure of!) they would just have to re-insert them under premiership regulations wouldnt they?

please correct me if i am wrong...

After a couple of years yes, bolton and sunderland were given a couple of seasons before having to make it all seater, so by that time provided we stayed up yes we would have to re install seats. But the amount of money we would get from being in the prem would more than suffice the financial needs.

However we have stated on this board that to redevelop the size we had against colchester would cost not all that much, an amount we could actually raise ourselves. 10.000 would be a realistic target. Thats a pound from every supporter at one home match and i am sure alot would give more. That would pay for seats to be removed, concrete touching up here and there for safety, new lines painted on every edge for safety, saftey bars for lazy fans like myself to lean on, and a new security net above the fencing to ensure extre security. Also for a small extra cost-1500 we could install wires and a computer on the three turnstiles to moniture numbers of fans entering those turstiles only and a tv above so the fans and the stewards can see how many tickets remain. The club already have a similar system installed and could save this money by just updating theres.

I think at a push the funding for the east end could be raised. Its other issues which keep it shrewded in doubt.

I've always felt that the club's haste to install seating after the Taylor Report had more to do with the increased admission charges that could be levied than with any genuine safety concerns.

I wonder though whether their actions actually cost them in the long run. Anyone who regularly attended City in the 80's will remember that the very moment the seats were bolted to the East End and the Enclosure (Lower Williams), the old atmosphere was immediately lost and has never returned (except for a handful of occasions).

Attendances in the early-mid 90's declined to a pitiful level for a 1st division club. Many City fans simply lost enthusiasm around that era, drifted away from the club and eventually stopped attending games altogether. I know quite a few of these personally. Their reasons, for the most part, are that they weren't enjoying it any more, the matchday experience no longer had the excitement generated by a noisy and passionate crowd and furthermore, it was too expensive.

I think it would be fair to say then that if a safe standing area were reintroduced, preferably in the East End, crowds would increase in proportion to the level of atmosphere and excitement - and needless to say, revenue would also go up, whether admission prices were lowered for standing areas or not.

That said, I very much doubt the legislation now in force would permit the club to reinstate standing, Premiership or not. But if there IS any possibility I hope they would seriously consider it, after all no one can fail to realise the impact the East End experiment has had to date.

I don't think there's anything to stop a club reverting seats back to terracing, as there's no law that clubs must have seating.

The ticketing price issue is always one that will surface as a barrier to the return of terracing, especially from the greedy div 1 chairmen.

I also know people wo wont go to City while they have to pay £15 just for the priverlidge of sitting in some cramped plastic seat
