Guest Bristolface
After reading all the slagging off ashtonyate has got for his constant dislike of our academy, I would like to know if anyone agrees with this chap, surely he could feature next time the BBC film grummpy old men that is if he is old, seems to be how can you get that grummpy at a young age ? I imagine him puncturing footballs that come over the fence into his garden.
BCFC_Dan
I like him. He seems a nice enough bloke and his ability to stick to his views (sorry, view) in the face of overwhelming evidence against them is admirable if baffling.
Guest The Codfather 0312
I don't agree with his views but he is not the only one. This is a forum and everyone has the right to have there say if its good or bad. I don't agree with starting threads slagging someone off and it should become a banable offence as threads like this could be hurtfull to some. bh_red
Nothing against the bloke, but he is just soo damn stuborn! he won't listen to reason and refuses to believe he is in the wrong.if he actually went to many games, then he would probably change his views, but he doesn't so he won'teveryone is entitled to their views, but you need facts to back up your viewpoint, he just repeats himself time and time again, and ignores any facts that are passed to him if he doesn't like them! StapleHillPhil
I like him. If our academy is unable to produce players of a good enough quality to cover an injury to a central defender then questions need to be raised about its future. On the flipside he was talking trash when it came to the three amigos last week.

Guest ashtonyate
Like 'England' I also agree with ashtonyate with regard to the academy. The academy has been an unwanted distraction to the first team and a waste of precious resources that could have been better used on helping gain promotion. It's no coincidence that the 7 years that the academy has been running has coincided with 7 years of poxy olde Div 3 standard football. christ
bucksred
Just to quote Oliver Cromwell with regard to those who think the academy is a good deal for BCFC with regard to improving our league position......"I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken." Mr Goblin, taint said academy, is the fools we employ to "manage" the club which keep us in our impoverished state

Which doesn't prove your argument at all - you can't have an academy on day one and expect it to produce decent players on day 2 - you have to let these kids grow up! It's the next 4 to 5 years that will prove, or disprove your assertions.

reddevil
You have to admire a guy who can generate a 20 reply thread of the academy on a Saturday morning by contributing only one word "Christ"Even if he is wrong
RedUn
Yeah so when players become decent enough to play at a good level, they are either sold or slip through the net. A nursery for other clubs !... their elders in our team have not been good enough so their go and join those that are ... and so the wheels of this argument continue to turn round and round. What no one, least of all ashtonyate or red goblin has ever come close to explaining is why anyone in their right mind would scrap the one part of the club's operation that does produce decent enough players in order to waste more on the parts that don't ... Just to quote Oliver Cromwell with regard to those who think the academy is a good deal for BCFC with regard to improving our league position......"I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken." ... and when you've extracted your thoughts from the bowels of whoever, think it possible that without the services we've had from decent young players on their way to better things our league position might be somewhat worse. Guest CGS RED
Ashtonyate is one of about ten only must read posters. Like many of you, I don't agree with every one of his threads, but I'me sure we all disagree with many other posters as well. I am in my 60's, and can appreciate his mind set, certainly better than a lot of the ill concieved trivia which has lowered the bar in recent months. Ashtonyate, one vote yes from me. Guest annanimo
I like Ashtonyate. I don't think I've met him personally and I completely disagree with his views on the academy. But what's wrong with some healthy disagreement? I respect his views and the way he expresses them. Somethimes I even find his obstinacy hilariously funny.Let's be realistic. The forum would be worse without people like Ashtonyate. He's obviously a character with a real passion for BCFC even if he will never see the logic in having an academy. Our discussions would be tepid and soulless without his contributions!Maybe we should start an Ashtonyate Fan Club!?
