PhatWill
I don't think it's any coincidence that since the irresponsible actions of Partridge, Orr, Brown and whoever else was involved (Brooker) our performances have been on a downward spiral. Before the incident happened we were making excellent progress with 2 great wins followed up by daylight robbery at the hands of Hartlepool.Since these 3 idiots decided to take liberties down town we have struggled past a poor Tranmere side, been dumped out of the league cup by a side who haven't won a league game since August and now have managed to concede 4 goals against a side that were supposedly struggling to find the net. It's become abundantly obvious that this incident has effected the dressing room in a rather more harming way than any of us (GJ included) could have anticipated. What I certainly don't agree with is that this is in some way GJ's fault. He dealt with the situation in the best way possible, or at least thats how it looked from the outside. Some people have very short memories. On the way back from the defeat at Forest when we had just 7 points and lied 23rd in the table I remember thinking that my expectations for the new man would be simple - KEEP US UP!Yet a month later, GJ has completely turned things around and has had everyone looking up the league rather than down. It is a testament to the impact he has had that people have started talking about being able to make the play-offs.For me though - he should still be judged solely on settling the ship. Automatic promotion this season is out of the question in my view, but play-offs remain very much attainable. Nevertheless from the predicament that we found ourselves in after the Forest game I would still applaud GJ for merely keeping us in this division. Some on here seem to have VERY unrealistic expectations. We'll probably win 3-2 at Saltergate on Wednesday anyway, that's the nature of GJ's sides - get used to it. robins72
YEs this club is in a bigger mess than Johnson expected. But I'm glad things have come to a head now and not later in the season. We have players at the club who are not bothered that they play for a football league club. They would rather stick 2 fingers up to the fans and manager in their own way and behave in a manner that if it was one of us we would be in serious trouble.NEvertheless its happened now and we have to move on. Confidence is still low and how we need that win against Chesterfield this week to lift confidence on and off the pitch.
Gerry Gows' Tash
I did think when GJ arrived that his slightly more abraisve style in the dressing room might have unpredictable effects on this squad, who aren't used to being told what's what, and that's how it's turned out - I don't think we'll have many dull games or many draws but I do think we'll finish top half at least, even after today. Consistency and confidence in front of goal are still our biggest problems, we really have to put together 3 convincing wins in a row to get everyone firing on all cylinders, and then ship out the freeloaders, be intersting to see what happens in January
rumbellow
Yes, But this is not a new problem, This has been a problem for at least 5 years now, Overpaid players out on the lash and putting in gutless performances. As I have posted previously, The management are to blame for this, They have defended, swept under the carpet, ignored the bad behaviour of players for to long now and it has come to this, It is a disgrace. Admin Maesknoll Red Posted October 22, 2005 Admin Share Posted October 22, 2005 No, the antics of last week have helped to highlight exactly why this club finds it's self in the current predicament , this club has had the 'comfy club' image, it has had the 'comfy club reality'. I can recall the days that many City players spent drinking them selves into stupors in the White Horse ( circa early 90's), until they got banned because a certain defender kept exposing himself. They were so proud of the fact that they had feigned injury and escaped training to get in the pub.If Johnson fails to sort this overpaid , underachieving shower out, the I am sure my financial support of this club will cease. Guest Keyred
Perhaps my call for all three to have been dismissed for gross misconduct is not looking so harsh after all? It's a difficult one.One would hope that the final warning would be enough to deter those three and the rest of the squad from a repeat performance but footballers are not generally noted for their intelligence. My head says they should have been dismissed but the heart says it's a loss of three first team players that we can ill afford to lose at this time.Is the final warning an end to the matter as far as the club is concerned though? Bearing in mind a worst case scenario? If Johnson fails to sort this overpaid , underachieving shower out, the I am sure my financial support of this club will cease. I reckon many 'older' supporters will think the same and vote with their feet should the Club and GJ fail this time round. I am optimistic that they/he won't.
