If We Can Get The Key Players Fit

I've said for a while that we haven't the players to play 4-4-2 without leaking a barrow load of goals and the last two games proved it.

Clayton Fortune wasn't playing so clearly, it's not all down to him!

I think we are badly missing Heywood who, despite looking a bit of a sick note, Sean Dyche impersonator, is a key player.

We haven't seen Russell, but he's the passing midfielder we've lacked since Tins went past it, then retired.

I've said for ages that you need pace & above all, power & strength, up front in this League and now, with Brooker & Quinn, we've got an opportunity to put that theory to the test.

Nice touches are a bonus at this level and two strikers who can hold the ball up, get on the end of half chances and make life difficult for central defenders, will cause more damage on a consistent basis.

Ask yourself this, who would you rather mark, Michael Bridges or Steve Brooker?

Skuse is playing the holding role in midfield and that involves protecting the back four. That is patently not working away from home and it may be better to move him back to what I consider is his best position although, I feel sorry for Keogh because we haven't given the lad a real run in the side. He's a competitor and a winner and that's what we need.

You judge defenders, under pressure, away from home and Sankofa has played in our last two games in a defence that has conceeded 7 goals, so is he the answer in a flat back four?

It's OK doing well at home, but on a cold Tuesday night at Doncaster with Leo Fortune West "livening you up," it's a different matter.

Given GJ's comments on Bridges, he could be on his way and I think it'll be 4-5 out and 2-4 in, in January.Typically, you'll see winners and mentally tough players.

If we had the players fit, I would try this:

3-5-2

........................................................PHILLIPS.....................................................................................

.................................SKUSE................HEYWOOD..............PARTRIDGE................................................

ORR..........................BROWN...............RUSSELL................WILKSHIRE..........................YOUGA..............

.............................................QUINN...................BROOKER.................................................................

SUBS

GK

STEWART

SANKOFA

SMITH G

COTTERILL

AT CHESTERFIELD:

We'll be missing Stewart, Heywood, Carey & Russell.

So:

....................................................PHILLIPS........................................................................................

.....................SANKOFA................KEOGH......................PARTRIDGE.......................................................

ORR..............BROWN....................SKUSE.....................WILKSHIRE..............................YOUGA................

...................................QUINN.....................BROOKER...........................................................................

SUBS

SMITH G

FORTUNE

BRIDGES

COTTERILL

We can't go on leaking goals at the rate we are and have any hope of winning away games.

Seven points now separate us from 6th place and, although a win at Chesterfield would reduce that to only four points, can you see it happening?
