robins72
I know I mentioned this a few weeks ago but after watching another soul destroying performance at the gate I really think it is time for some off the field phycology.Johnson is tearing his hair out with the lack of confidence in the squad so surely its time to get someone in from outside the club to install some confidence and belief back into the club. The players have the backing from the fans but this is not enough.Unless someone can give them the belief it will be a long time before we win another game.Your thoughts please........ Quite strange. I was looking at that compere bloke (who does his job well, to be fair) and thinking how ironic it was that he gets on the City payroll, whilst Danny Wilson's fitness trainer and 'psychologist' didn't. robins72
Something needs to be addressed at the club. The players look painfully drained mentally. Someone needs to make them believe in themselves again.

Someone needs to make them believe in themselves again. That's true, and although some have suggested it on here, I don't think it's something that Gary Johnson can be expected to change in a couple of months of management. Over time, he'll look to get some leaders at Ashton gate, who will inspire players when their heads drop. We don't have that now, or the team spirit. Whether a psychologist would help in the short-term i just don't know.

robins72
Well something has to give and maybe even a phycologist could help. I would talk to the players but don't think I could make much of a difference apart from beating them with a stick!!

Show the players the delicious contents & then promise them that they can have one if they win. I know that it would work for me!

Jay
Personally I need a Penguin or a kit Kat for motivation.Ok, we'll try the Iced Gems first, if that doesn;t work, then we'll try a Penguin & then finally a Kit Kay (chunky, of course). Hmmm.....maybe a Yorkie would also help to make them feel like men! I will do that next home game and eat them infront of the players and tell them how good it is to taste an iced gem. havanatopia
How about performace related pay, would that change some attitudes?i think you will find the players are already on bonuses for results as well as appearance money. We need Roy Keane plain and simple.

Jay
The chairman saw it fit to employ a male manager. What does he know eh??? Well, don't give up - keep reaching for that rainbow as my Grandad used to say. (Actually, he took his own advise one day & put a hip out whilst running down the stairs one rainy day!) RedM
Yeah me Robins and RedM applied as a tag team, but they said they had had a better offer!Do you think we'd better offer our services again then girls?!Seriously, I do think they could do with some sort of teambuilding (but not a boys night out type!). Whether through injuries, suspensions or loans in and out, we haven't been able to field a settled side at all. Have we actually put out the same team twice in a row??? The players just don't seem settled, they look nervous and afraid to make a mistake and therefore want too long on the ball and give it away cheaply.Listening to the radio on the way home someone made the point that the players have given up as they feel they will be out of a job in January. Some players like Wilkshire I'm sure will be moving onto bigger and better things so he isn't going too loose out. Other players know they will struggle to find other clubs with the same level of wage etc as this one. I'm sure there must be some friction between players regarding wages as there is in most workplaces.I think they need to get to know eachother, trust eachother, enjoy being together and support eachother. They will then work hard to help eachother and be united as a team. At the moment there are too many individuals each playing their own game. robins72
My thoughts...Who should give the players self belief ? Ummm - that would be the manager.Yes but not always does that happen. Some players don't like to communicate with their manager. Some find it easier to talk to someone who they are on the same level with. I guess that is why I have suggested a phycologist so that they can suggest ways to communicate positive thoughts into the players minds. Maybe this could have a positive effect ont eh manager too. robins72
I'm not having a go at you, I do respect what you post.I am just totally cheesed off with the situation !Johnson's appointment seems to be a mistake and we will pay for it big time - he has totally demoralised a demoralised squad ! That aint good management.Youa re right. Johnson went too heavy handed in the dressing room and now hes scared the living daylights out of the players. As a manager I know that people skills are important when dealing with a team of players. He realises this now but appears to have lost the self belief of the players. He needs to install a leader in the team or bring in an outsider who can bring some confoidence to the team.Johnson will get it right but only when he has his team of players who want to play for him. It will be interesting to see how many players will come and go in the January transfer window.
