Johnson states in an earlier news article "We've turned the corner", stating how happy he was with the players in training this week.

...then the latest article "We were carved open"...

errm... so we haven't quite turned the corner yet then, Gary?

It appears that most of the posts on this forum still blame the players for the position we're in. All I saw yesterday was complete capitulation once Chesterfield had equalised against the run of play.

They then proceeded to score 2 more goals in the space of 10 minutes.

To my mind, we had no organisation, no game plan and no motivation. That's down to the manager. Johnson and Millen just stood there and watched. There was no attempt to reorganise the side or man-mark/nullify the threat of Allot, Hall and Niven who ran midfield for them all afternoon.

We/he can't keep blaming the players, Johnson has to start taking some responsibility for the position we're in. Skuse is not up to central midfield in a relegation-threatened side at the moment. And I would even put Wilkshire in that category.

We need tacklers who can break up the midfield threat of the opposition. This is my biggest worry.

With his current record of loan signings, I can't help feeling that January is going to come and go with a whimper.

Johnson needs to start motivating the players at his disposal and sending the team out with a decent gameplan and a decent midfield that can dominate the middle of the park, especially at home.

The general theme of your post I agree with.

Whilst a Gary Johnson supporter, I do now feel that the January sales issue has to be put to one side until JANUARY. And the more immediate issue of stopping the rot addressed. As I have posted previously the midfield area needs to be bolstered, in any way possible with the personell available.

Constant talk of needing more strikers is clouding the issue. For the fist quarter of an hour we looked anything but strugglers we created three clear chances, so as Gary Johnson said with the ball we are OK.

It's without the ball the problems start. Only Steve Brooker I would suggest from the forward / midfield area closes down and batles without the ball. The difference when he was carried off yesterday was significant. Scott Brown works hard and I believe would be better off played more in the centre. This means in effect City are surrendering two thirds of the pitch before any atempt is made to retrieve the ball.

It is this reason that we capitualte and conceed goals in the fashion we have in the last two games.

My advice is to go to three at the back and load the midfield, as a tempoary measure and PLEASE sign a ball winner as a priority. If the coaching staff cannot address this issue then critisim will be justified.

Too true. and when GJ finally states 'we need tacklers' how on god's green earth can that be a suprise?

we've missed Tommy (faults or not) and we simply don't have a central midfield player capable of holding the centre circle and terrorising the other teams. But so many of us have been screaming that for 18 months!

Sadly I would rather see us play a gameplan where we stop teams playing through us and hit 'em on the break - but who do we have who can break? and who do we have who can stop the play.

Wilkshire tries to distribute the ball, and you can sense his frustration at what goes on around him.

(You could SEE Youga's frustration at lack of movement yesterday)

I agree about Skuse - he's a prospect, but not one for a relegation battle, he just isn't strong enough.

I'm so tired of hearing Gary Johnsons homespun philosophy after every game, it's ham fisted and lacks any sense of real understanding of the true problem.

Is he saying ' I can see the problems, but I can't help'? errrr...thats your job Gary.

We do have a lightweight set of players and Brian managed to sign some real wafer thin talent (Grant Smith - oh my god) but GJ surely can't just throw his hands up and say - 'I can't work with these players'

You're right - he needs to actually stop telling us in the press how it is, and get on with it.

pronto.

Couldn't agree more mate.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that the Messiah Johnson should take some responsibility. Also very, very scary to think what players he might bring to the club in January if his loan signings are anything to go by!

Whilst I agree that the City midfield needs strengthening with players that can tackle the question remains of who from the currant squad could do the job?

Russell maybe but he's only just come back from a lengthy injury but apart from him who else is there?

The thing that made me chuckle was in the GJ interview when he said the players feel they have let the fans down A LITTLE BIT. Just a little bit?

no-one really

Brown is the best candidate, but since he acts like a deranged jack russell most of the time (chasing the big shiny ball) his positional abilities come into question.

This is a question that the chairman should be answerable to really, why did we sign Grant Smith (who in his own words isn't really a winger) AND Russell when we already had Wilkshire and Brown who are both attacking Midfielders?

(as ever don't misinterprete this as a Lansdown must go question - just a question over he should have stayed Brians hand on the deals he did before he left) we lost the balance of MF when Tommy had to to go and really needed to address it then.

I would have liked to see Clayton Fortune groomed more for the role, but I doubt whether Brians managerial ability would have done that (I suggested this very fact to Brian himself once - shortly before he left! he agreed with me, but it never happened) since then Clayton has managed to ###### up his opportunity under GJ so I suppose that option is gone too.

Perhaps we need to consider pushing a central defender (like carey) up into defensive midfield? give him a brief to break up the play through the middle and let Wilkshire play in front of him (yesterday Wilks was playing far too deep)

all in all we don't have a MF and that (in my opinion) is why the teams we play come rushing through onto our defence so much. Build a stronger MF, help defend the back more, THEN build up the front guys,

Yep - quite right. We don't really have anybody... yet Johnson seems to be looking for strikers and defenders, without a thought for midfield... :dunno:
