gazareth Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 City today announced the deal to sign Stockport County striker Jermaine Easter, 24, has been called off. From the main site:http://www.bcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/...~774701,00.htmlCity can today announce the deal to sign Stockport County striker Jermaine Easter has been called off.The two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee late last night for the eight-goal Hatters forward.Easter, 24, travelled to Ashton Gate to speak to manager Gary Johnson this morning, with a view to talking terms and undergoing a medical. But on leaving the meeting, Gary told bcfc.co.uk: "At this moment in time an agreement has not been reached for one reason or another."City will continue their search to make signings ahead of next Tuesday's transfer window closure. No further comment will be made at this stage.
The Casual Connoisseur Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Please tell me this is a joke!
Guest Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 "At this moment in time an agreement has not been reached for one reason or another."Either he wants too much dosh, or he's got medical issues is my guess
RedTauntonian Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Just as i thought we'd finally got a forward in!
The Casual Connoisseur Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 maybe someone else has come in for him? What a shame, he sounds like just the guy we need!
North Bristols Cider Army Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Oh well back to the drawing board I guess, I was hoping that he would of done a good job for us too as I feel that we need someone with pace upfront
Redhyde Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Hopefully the Easter announcement was to force B'mouth to accept our bid as it looked like we would turn our attention elsewhere.Shame for him (and maybe us) unless it's greedy agents or he's demanding too much.
Dave L Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 "At this moment in time an agreement has not been reached for one reason or another."Either he wants too much dosh, or he's got medical issues is my guess Could be. Or maybe there's another club wanting to talk to him, or maybe we've got someone else lined up who GJ thinks is better. Only time will tell, but roll on the wild speculation anyway.
Guest DrFaustus Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I'll bet he's not a happy (Easter) bunny.
Lordofthebling Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 This icon sums it all up for me....and this one: And this: At least I got paid today!
RED4LIFE Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Easters off??What about Lent, Halloween and Christmas??I was really looking forward to some eggs too!!
EmersonsKev Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe B'muff have paniced and said they'll accept our offer for Hayter seeing we're not going to come back with a better offer.
The Casual Connoisseur Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe B'muff have paniced and said they'll accept our offer for Hayter seeing we're not going to come back with a better offer.I would prefer Easter, he has pace to burn.
Guest Harry Dolman Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe B'muff have paniced and said they'll accept our offer for Hayter seeing we're not going to come back with a better offer.Maybe.......... I would say its either injuries, money or simply he thinks he will get a better offer.Perhaps, what he really want is to wait till May, go on a free & get a big sign on fee ??
Sirben Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Typical!! Tell the world we want to sign him and then it gets called off!! Hmm!!!
Portland Bill Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Out of all you people on here who are "gutted" we havent signed him how many have actually seen the bloke play ? . Is it just a case of ..... the fans would be happy with any signing ?. Just asking like
Super Bob Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe.......... I would say its either injuries, money or simply he thinks he will get a better offer. On the Stockport site it says it was money they couldn't agree on.
Lordofthebling Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe B'muff have paniced and said they'll accept our offer for Hayter seeing we're not going to come back with a better offer.Just what I ws thinking... or SL has said, "heres another 50k"
cinker Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe.......... I would say its either injuries, money or simply he thinks he will get a better offer.Perhaps, what he really want is to wait till May, go on a free & get a big sign on fee ??Agreed , but it could be another issue also. Perhaps he thinks he's too good or can ge better deal or has an attitude problem where he would not fit into the chemistry of the team. Or because of the publicity perhaps another team has stepped in. Blooming maddening though ain't it
Port Said Red Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Typical!! Tell the world we want to sign him and then it gets called off!! Hmm!!! No, we just confirmed what Stockport put on their site and even then there were people complaining that it was late going on the official site. They can't win in these situations.
EmersonsKev Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Stockport are claiming he failed to agree personal terms, makes me think that Mr Easter was being a wee bit greedy.Stockport County fc

Guest Mikenoski Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I don't think this was a ploy to help our bid for Hayter....It wasnt as if we were saying that we found the striker we wanted and that was it....GJ said in the evening post that he was still hoping to get another striker in as well as Easter.I think the Hayter deal is dead and buried.
Dinky Gems Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I don't think there is much point as to try and work out why , we will never hear the truth from both sides. The reality is, its fallen through and we need to be looking at some other strong players, we are rapidly running out of time .
Puckle_red Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I reckon, we`ve got another striker on the cards, e.g Hayter, or maybe somebody else, the fact Johnson said for some reason or another, for me spells it out, well I hope so anyway. To be honest, I`m not that bothered, I know a few people that support league two sides, and I asked all of them what he is like, and the majority said, he wasnt actually that good, but he still sticks away the goals, suppose just what we need.
Redcar Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I think Marcus may have had a quiet, sinister word in his ear!

I reckon, we`ve got another striker on the cards, e.g Hayter, or maybe somebody else, the fact Johnson said for some reason or another, for me spells it out, well I hope so anyway. To be honest, I`m not that bothered, I know a few people that support league two sides, and I asked all of them what he is like, and the majority said, he wasnt actually that good, but he still sticks away the goals, suppose just what we need. didn't he score 2 against Swansea in the cup?
Rich-TWSC- Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Some of you are your own worst enemy - You get so excited before the deal is concluded.Sounds like the deal isn't dead though.
MattyAli Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 On the BBC forum, Stockport fans are pleading for a club to come in for him. Just the player we DON'T need by the sounds of things.....
Rich-TWSC- Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 You've got to put 2+2 together here.He scores at every club he's played for but is constantly leaving. That, to me, suggests an attitude.
richieb Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Why ?There is much more to personal terms than just money.Johnson has stated in the past, for instance, that all players should live in or around Bristol - maybe he didn't like that.Maybe he wanted a guaranteed first team place - he won't get that.Maybe he wanted a 5 year contract - he wont get that.ect ect ect ectAgree.GJ has a certain criteria that players must meet. And it dosn't just hang on salary. Its all about attitude - approach. And all importantly Bristol City.Maybe he saw something that didn't fit the criteria.
StapleHillPhil Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Agree.GJ has a certain criteria that players must meet. And it dosn't just hang on salary. Its all about attitude - approach. And all importantly Bristol City.Maybe he saw something that didn't fit the criteria. If thats the case then it seems we haven't done our homework on a player AGAIN.
cheshire_red Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 If thats the case then it seems we haven't done our homework on a player AGAIN.Can't be easy to do that at this stage of the window Kings. We've been turned down by at least two clubs for whom we have made firm offers for strikers so we look around at see who is leftand where speculation is. Can't do homework when a quick decision is required. Allyou can do is get the lad down to the club and ask pertinent questions. If GJ didn't like the answers then it has to be tara. Simple as.AND not agreeing terms can mean anything but. if we didn't like his attitude for example then no side is actually going to give that as the reason are they!
richieb Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 If thats the case then it seems we haven't done our homework on a player AGAIN.Disagree.You can scout a player, you can assess his ability. But you cannot see what the player is about until you sit him down & assess what he can bring to BCFC.We have had a lot of players that may have been signed on ability & from what has been seen on scouting missions. But once you get to meet face to face, then you may find something that could be disruptive.Demands & issues that could disrupt team spirit are key factors.Homework - you can do it, but are you guarenteed full marks?
Loderingo Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 if terms cannot be agreed(Easter being too greedy my guess)I guess that too! Don't forget he already turned down Oxford. Still if he isn't careful could end up playing in the Conference next year.
RedM Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Says here he snubbed us ????http://www.stockportcounty-mad.co.uk/news/...=TMNW&id=264253Well he's not going to get too much closer to his home town of Cardiff unless they or Swansea are buying, is that what he is looking for???
BigTone Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Who really cares? If he doesn't want to come here or couldn't get through the medical then so be it, we'll just have to keep looking for someone with quality who does.
Guest midlandno2 Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 How's this for a conspiracy theory? Norwich want to sign Jerome to replace Ashton, Cardiff lokking for a striker before they agree and have a quiet word with young Jermaine.

I thought the new Johnson regime meant that we'd no longer be victims of ridiculous transfers. If its about attitude rather than money then we should have known this. Perhaps a call to Wolves, Cambridge, Boston, or Hartlepool might have revealed this character flaw?As it is we wasted a day and we're nowhere nearer to finding somebody that Gary Johnson feels will do the job up front for us. Still we're only in a relegation battle and facing a promotion chasing team tomorrow.
RedM Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Disagree. You can scout a player, you can assess his ability. But you cannot see what the player is about until you sit him down & assess what he can bring to BCFC.We have had a lot of players that may have been signed on ability & from what has been seen on scouting missions. They might just as well read the Club's Forum! OK there is lots of gossip and rumour, but some comments are nearer the truth than is sometimes comfortable. All it needs is a person who is able to weed out the good from the bad. If we can make a judgement about whether a post is rubbish or not then someone in the game will be able to!

Guest midlandno2 Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 In which case, he wouldn't have bothered travelling downJust a thought off the top of my head, I can't believe we couldn't offer better terms than he's already on.
badger22 Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 From the main site:http://www.bcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/...~774701,00.htmlI more worried this might mean the return of Legend_City_Man.......I was thinking about setting up a boxing match between us for charity
stortfordred Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Just a thought off the top of my head, I can't believe we couldn't offer better terms than he's already on.My guess is Louis challenged him to a 30 yard sprint: easter wins he gets a contract, Carey wins he gets to go back to Stockport.
fRed Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Oh well. At least the club make lots of money from all the SMS's.

I believe quite simply GJ did not like him. he has never been mentioned before that i can recall so not sure why it is bad news. In fact probably good news he is not coming. he sounded like a bit of a compromise in the first place. The reality is promotion has passed us by now so why make a panic purchase. If we get nobody until the close season it will be no great shakes in my view.
Guest Ivan_is_a_legend Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 there is a bit in the sun saying wycombe are set to sign easter for £80,000.maybe they are offer a better deal?
RedTop Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 If thats the case then it seems we haven't done our homework on a player AGAIN.Perhaps the complete opposite. Perhaps we HAVE done the homework, and for that reason refuse to go above a price and salary etc that we believe is commensurate with that assessment.Maybe we did the homework, but he failed the oral. It may be that GJ didn't like what he saw.Whatever the reason, I want the club to stand strong. I am sick of us paying over the odds in fee or salary. It only leads to disappointment in the long run. It's a shame it became public before the deal was done, but the fault there was Stockport's, not ours. We said not a word until Stockport made it official. I guess it's in their interests to stir up other clubs to action.Disappointing, yes. The end of the world? Not by a long shot. After all...we've got Bas
downendcity Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 herpes??Herpes - pacey, left footed striker playing in the Brazilian second division, but other than that don't know much about him. Don't think Gary would want him in the squad though!
RedM Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Agreed RedTop. Deals failing at the last hurdle may happen all the time but we don't get to hear about it. It may also be happening to our players being shipped out or wanting to leave also. I really don't like this Transfer Window, it's hardly helping players prepare for their matches. Great if you are sitting near the top of the table and got your signings in already, not so good if you are being sucked into relegation quicksand and beginning to panic.
Guest Harry Dolman Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe we did the homework, but he failed the oral. It may be that GJ didn't like what he saw.Christ on a bike, I knew the world of footy tranfers was seedy, but this is dreadful!

Not by a long shot. After all...we've got Bas I hope you're right as our dealings in the transfer market have been a shambles for as long as I can remember. My concern is that the character flaw was only revealed at the face to face meetings when perhaps we could have saved a lot of time and energy by talking to his former employers about him. If we did and he was given glowing references then we've got to back Johnson's judgement. If we didn't then that's worring.
Nibor Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Fair play to Johnson for having the guts to pull the plug on a deal if he's not happy with the player or the terms.Slap on the wrists to Johnson for not being in the position on January 5th instead of January 27th.Nibor
Belfastcityfan Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Maybe we could get Bob Bob Super Bobby Taylor back!!!!!Best striker to don a city shirt! What will happen now is we will panic buy, waste more money and the guy will be a flop. Let Marcus have a run in the team and give him a chance to show his Premiership class. He has the heart and soul of a city supporter! He will play like any fan on this forum who given the chance. Drop Bas, bring in Marco
