Although I didn't actually see him drive away, it looked like he wasn't going to hang around to watch the match.

Collis Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Its sad to see him not in the team, he is a decent player but quite clearly isn't going to fit into our style of play.I really think he could play at a higher level if given the chance.

He certainly didn't look unhappy nor was he screaming into the phone to his Agent to get him another club!
Nibor Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Wilkshire won't get a new contract because his wages are too high. He's not part of Johnson's plans going forward and therefore will only play if there's noone else available.Nibor

Bodiesaffer Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 OR Russel & Noble (& Cotts) could just be keeping him out of the team?i agree the midfield are doing well at the moment you don't change a winning team, his time will come ,he's a good player. I hope he's in gj plans and signs a new deal.
Guest The Codfather 0312 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 The thing is with Wilshire is he is a a good player at home and good against the top sides and would of done a good job yesterday against Swansea but He aint a player that likes playing at places like Chesterfield on a Tues night and isn't physical enough for this league. To lightweight imo.
Guest lee10 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 i don't understand why u all love luke, for me he is the most overrated player we have had in years, ok so he has a nice touch thats it, no aggression, weak, lazy and not good enough, glad johnson has noticed what ive been saying for years. noble, russel, skuse, brown any of them over luke any time.

Economou Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I second that He is Overrated and i believe we have been a better team without himThe stats don't lie.Wilkshire Apps 14 (8) Goals 4Russell/Noble Apps 24 (1) Goals ZilchCan't believe he's not even in the squad when over the last few years he's been virtually our only scoring midfielder. Agreed he's not the defensive type but surely he's a class above Noble, well though he's playing.
Guest lee10 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 noble is a lot better than luke, he can go
Guest Pat-in-Goal Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 noble is a lot better than luke, he can goNoble and skuse are 10 times the Player then Luke is

We are looking good at the moment and I can't see Skippy replacing Noble or Russell and there's no way I'd drop Scotty for him.
Economou Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Noble and skuse are 10 times the Player then Luke isSorry, forgot Skuse.Including his stats that makes 42 (8) apps between the three of them, still no goals. We're not that well off enough in the scoring dep't that you should ignore a potential 10 goal a season m'fielder.
Guest lee10 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 cole isnt a goal scorer, he's 19, his passing skills are more influencial than lukes and they are diff players to compare really, luke is similar to noble, but noble is more class. time for luke to move on. russel skuse noble and scotty brown are higher on the pecking order.

Although I didn't actually see him drive away, it looked like he wasn't going to hang around to watch the match.I think Grannyjoy explained a couple of years ago that once a player has reported and been told he's definitely not in the squad, the first thing he does is go and grab some grub as they are not allowed to eat just before the match if they are playing. This apparently goes for almost all the players, so just because you see them racing off in their fancy cars just before kick-off don't assume they are throwing their dollies out of the pram. In most cases, they come back to watch the game.

Guest baters82 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 i do believe lukes era is up, but we should of tried cashing in on him, because he's going to walk out for free.
TomBCFCUK Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 He is a class player, we need to try and keep him i would chose him over Russell everytime in the Middle of the park!
RedM Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I really rate Luke and the football style he brings to the club. He is a model pro and we need to try to hold on to him. His biggest 'fault' is that he is probably too classy for this division, and defintely for the relegation zone (or there abouts) that we've been in lately. It will be ironic that if we were to let him go now, then get promotion next season, he'd be the very sort of player that we would need to help keep us in the Championship.
Nibor Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 He is a class player, we need to try and keep him i would chose him over Russell everytime in the Middle of the park!Russell replacing Wilkshire is one of the biggest reasons our form has turned around, Wilkshire doesn't tackle, doesn't get behind the ball when we're out of possession, and tries speculative passes that don't come off far too often.Nibor
bcfcnick Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Good player and good attitude but probably lacks sufficient bite to play in the middle and is short of some of the assets needed for a wide player as he rarely gets behind defences and puts crosses in. Normally I'd expect a player in his position to see out his contract but with the World Cup looming he really needs to be playing first-team football to be in contention for selection. Under these circumstances he might be less choosy in terms of accepting a deal with another club in league 1. I'm surprised he hasn't asked for his name to be formally circulated. The fact Luke wasn't in the 16 on Saturday could mean he is being preserved as injury free for a surprise exit. He'd be a more than useful bargaining chip for the club in the efforts to bring in a striker.

Admin Maesknoll Posted January 30, 2006 Admin Posted January 30, 2006 Its sad to see him not in the team, he is a decent player but quite clearly isn't going to fit into our style of play.I really think he could play at a higher level if given the chance. He was given the chance, but they (Middlesborough) obviously didn't rate him, so they sold him to us.
RedTop Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Imagine being all the above and still good enough IMO to walk into any championship side and the small matter of a world cup final squad. Fans on here amaze me, if you actually see what LW brings to the team you will see someone who can do something from a dead ball situation and someone that no matter what has happend to him he hasnt moaned or groaned, if we lose him he will be a big loss.I agree that he hasn't moaned and groaned. His attitude seems to be spot on and hopefully will rub off on the youngsters. However, Russell and Noble are in the team ahead of him on merit. And as pointed out, our set piece conversion rate has gone up.He's always been the sort of player I like having here, the sort I like to see in City colours. But it's hard to make a case for him to be starting at the moment. The other problem is that when he is in the side it's difficult to keep a settled team and pattern of play because he has to keep jetting off for internationals etc, which can be a pain as it's not just a trip over to another part of Europe. If he stays, I'll be happy. If he goes, I'll have no complaints either.
