My Opinions On The Rest Of This Season

A question that hasn't come up much in recent weeks is "Do you think Gary Johnson is the right man for Bristol City?" - I think, and hope, that this forum has decided a resounding YES! is the answer to that. We've been on a 9 match losing streak since he came, partly because I don't think some players took kindly to his new routines, partly because of decisions on his part, and partly because of particularly poor fans support - After the Supporters' Trust launch night we played excellently on that Tuesday night against Bradford and were unlucky to come away with nothing. Since then we've lost just 1 from the 10 since that awful streak, we've seen a rejuvinated Scott Murray and Louis Carey, changed the team very little and bulked up the strength and in many ways improved the ability of the players, tought them how to work as a unit aswell as work for themselves.

We may have made just a handfull of signings in this transfer window but with the way this team is playing at the moment, and with Marcus Stewart, Liam Fontaine, Jamie Smith, Luke Wilkshire & Cole Skuse waiting in the wings we look covered for all but the worst injury crisis. The team has come together as a unit and is playing like a team rather than 11 individuals and this can only bode well for the rest of this season. We have some tough away games coming up in the next month, but we were unlucky to get less than a point from Colchester on a cold Tuesday night, and they're up at the top of the league at the moment, and with the momentum we have behind us we may see some nice results coming through.

Once the pressure of being in a relegation battle lifts off for us it can't be said how it will affect the team but with how close the league is at the moment I'm sure inside some of the players heads they still have vague play-off aspirations. Once we are clear of danger we can concentrate on that, and a play-off place is just as much as an incentive as getting away from the relegation zone, if not moreso.

I think we'll stay up easily, but I think that we can't stay with just 1 loss here and 1 there forever, and that we may slip at some point, but a 9 match losing run is nothing but a far away nightmare from what I can see. Gary has won over the respect of the lads, something Tinnion failed to do, and I think this will guide us clear of safety, but a top-half finish is maybe slightly out of the question, I'd certainly say anything above 14th would be a decent return at present.

See you all soon
