Just thought I would see how many people agree with me that he is the most overrated player we have had since Marvin Brown?

he is 18 years old and very raw! He cannot be that bad if John Toshack felt he was good enough to replace Giggsy a few months back

he is a bit young at the moment and I'm surprised he has played so many games.

but fair play to him, once he learns the simple things in maybe a year or two, he is going to be real quality!

bearing in mind the chances are that you are probably on a wind up here...

i totally disagree with you. he is raw, but when did you ever see marvellous marvin beat three men and score the winner against a top of the table side??? cottrell is as raw as they come, but he has talent, appears to have his feet on the ground (unlike anyinsah for example) and will be a very valuable player for this club for years to come. personally i think it is a shame that he has pressure heaped on him to play every week, it would of been better if GJ was able to use him sparingly and gradually brought into a succesful side with the odd appearance and mostly sub run outs. however, circumstance s i.e. a lack of a better option means he has to start every game.

Marvin vanished into non-league obscurity, only made a handfull of appearences and pretty much struggled to live upto the hype. So i would say the hype in DCs case is more realistic, youngest cap for Wales and still a current international with them.

Cotterill deserves a first team place in the side, he did well at the end of last season and the beginning of this. fair enough he lost form in the middle of this season but i think hes finding it again at present, he works his socks off all game, not just in attack but in defense aswell!

but he is still young, he still has plenty to learn and i think we will be a great prospect for the future.

Sad I know but I did a stato on DC using the DVD's the club sells and I picked the huddersfield game as the one we all remember for his blinding goal.

I have to tell you that the stat's sho that apart from the goal his useful contribution was virtually zero.

Of 21 potential tackles he only succeeded in winnning the ball once.

He made 4 runs with the ball other then the goal and they were all wasted.

Crossing was a little better, where 2 out of 5 attempts managed to reach the box.

his passing ratio was less then 50%

All in all he was not worth playing accept for the goal, now that fine if he is getting a goal every 2 to 4 games, unfortuntely his goals are extremely rare and have never actually counted (we were already winning the huddersfiled game and we were 6 or 7 goals down when he got one against swansea.

Hes a good player but your eyes do not deceive you, he charges about and deliveries very little end product.

No question he will improve alot, but can city afford to wait around playing him week in week out while he learns the trade? I think not.

I honestly don't think Dave Cotterill will be with you very long. I can see a bigger club snapping him up

They'll have to pay 7 figures.

Cotterill is improving by the game, he's now tempering his previously over zealous attacking runs with some excellent defensive work and is showing signs of delivering end product. In a year or two we could have a winger with tricks and pace who can deliver the ball in the box - what a novel idea! I'd be a bit wary of burning him out but for me he's not showing signs of that yet.

Cotterill was the best player on the pitch last Saturday, when he wants to he can affect a game in a way no one else in the team can.

Was he not originaly a striker anyway?

Cotterill is rubbish, well said Homer

Harsh. he is clearly not the finished player, but who is at 18yo?

I do also believe that he shouldn't be playing 90 mins from the start in all league games. Anyone who works with youngsters knows that bringing them into the team for a while, then drifting them out maintains their hunger levels whilst giving them the time to focus on development.

He would also be effective in his position coming on late in games.

Playing every game is wrong IMO.

Can be very frustrating at times, especially when a pass is on and he decides to take the ball on and lose posession. Other times he can be the best player on the pitch, and make you get out of your seat with anticipation that something good is going to happen.

His crossing was at one point woeful, but that has slowly improved.

I wouldn't say he was over-rated, just current warrants his place in the team.

Its very early to tell, I think he could go 1 of 2 ways.

1. Go on to the prem, be a fairly good player.

2. End up staying at city for the rest of his career, playing a Greg Goodridge kind of role but without the long throw.

I hope he nputs the work in, it will benefit him and us.

Err, how exactly are our young players meant to develop otherwise? Or do we stop attracting youngsters and just keep buying in journeymen? Personally, I think Dave should have been rested when he was not playing well, but with him and Skuse we have 2 great prospects and should be prepared to allow them to develop. In response to the original post, Marvin never really developed. Dave is improving and will either be a decent player for City, or will convert into a very nice cheque.

Be patient.

I think the only problem for him imo is he is starting far far to many games. There has been countless times when he has preety much made no impact in a game but is continued to play.

He obviously has bags of potential, but at this young age I feel it would be far far better bringing that type of player from the bench for when is needed to terrorise defence later on in games.

I feel Johnson is making a mistake in starting him every game.
