Guest ashtonyate Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I was thinking when was the last time did I really look foward to going down to see City and the anwser is the last time we got promoted. Then I could not wait for the next game to come around. The Club had a buss about it, we seemed to real get over 1982 and all that.We were playing fast flowing football that put you on the edge of your seats.Scott Davedson was a great motavater the whole club was rocking,I havent felt that way since, even when we made the play offs under Wilson. I never felt that good about Wilsons teams they were never strong enough to make you fill confident.I know I am going to get alot of stick about Scott but his biggest gaff was letting Ward go and also the Club needed a centre half and not getting one had we had got one we would have stayed up and may have been in the prem by now.
Robbored Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Hindsight is a wonderfull thing....City should never have got rid of Alan Dicks - he got us into what is now the premiership......
madmax Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Two seasons ago was the last time I was looking forward to going to Ashton Gate. We were playing great football under Danny Wilson and we had an excellent chance of auto promotion only to lose out and get in the play offs, which we all know what happened there !Last season and this season have not been great, especially this season. We finished 7th last season which was OK but I am so looking forward to this season finishing.MM

Or do you think style of play is dictated by chairmen and not managers?
Guest ashtonyate Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Shouldn't this thread be entitled 'Great John'? Guest Dan C Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 No I said about his gaff in letting ward go but Scott gave the club a bussAlso Alan Dicks was great for the club but he had his day and went like s many managers So you have gave up on the Acedemy now have you? Or should we be expecting a moan about it from you some time in the very near future?
SE23Red Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 No I said about his gaff in letting ward go but Scott gave the club a bussAlso Alan Dicks was great for the club but he had his day and went like s many managersI think quality football and promotion gave the club a buzz, like the buzz of the sellouts against QPR Plymouth and Brighton followed by the playoff semi against Hartlepool in 03/04.What happened to the buzz in 1998/99 when we sank without a trace under the stewardship of 'Great Scott'?

SE23Red Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 But he was still a better Chairman than Lansdown who gets fans backs upI'll take it that you now accept that the buzz is created by the football and not the chairman then, as you've wandered off into just slagging off our current chairman now...
BB. Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 My favourate season in reacent years was the season where we lost in the play off final. It felt destined that we were going up that year.... Doh!Hartlepool play off semi fianl, best 5 minutes of football I'll ever see!
Guest ashtonyate Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 So you have gave up on the Acedemy now have you? Or should we be expecting a moan about it from you some time in the very near future?Yes you could be right when we keep bringing young loanees it showes that its not doing its job
Gazred Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 In all fairness to Landsdown, he had a lot of work to do clearing up the financial mess that was left after the Davidson era.Belive me if we had got promotion under Wilson that buzz would of been back.

dagest Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 No I said about his gaff in letting ward go but Scott gave the club a bussAlso Alan Dicks was great for the club but he had his day and went like s many managersWhen what we really needed was a luxury coach. Useless man he was.
The Fat Controller Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Well he needs slagging off he is crapPrepared to put your hand in your pocket? No? Shut the hell up then.
Guest ashtonyate Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Prepared to put your hand in your pocket? No? Shut the hell up then. Its not all about putting your hand in your pocket,Its about making the right discession like not spending 325K on a raw young scott when the club is in debt.not shutting down or reducing the academy to a centre of excellence when it was costing the club over a million a year when it was set up.I bet if you looked at our debt most of it goes back to bad discession made by Lansdown.
BCAGFC Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I wouldn't say Scott Davidson was any better at being chairman of BCFC than Steve Lansdown has been but they are both completely different characters. Both have ambition but where Davidson was prepared to gamble for success Lansdown being a money man is trying to do it cautiously. The only thing I would say is that I personally felt more wanted as a supporter during Davidsons' reign than I do now.BCAGFC
Chappers Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Davidson sure gambled for success. Had we not got a huge fee for Ade, we would have ended up at Gamblers Anonymous!

Had we not got a huge fee for Ade, we would have ended up at Gamblers Anonymous!I think we owe more money now than then and we had not sold lita Golbourn and restucturing the clubs debt we might have been done for now.
