North Bristols Cider Army Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I'm sure that there a similar thread has already been posted on here, but I would like to know your all time favourite city player and why. I have only been following city for about 10 years and in that time to me there has only been a few players who have stuck in my mind. Murray for his amazing goals before he went to reading, Carey for being an ever present defender who could either play at right back, or centre half, Phillips because his saves have won us lots and lots of games, but more importantly, in my oopinion Tinman because not only has he scored many important goals, he has sent many many balls and split the defence open with his trusty left foot, which we have scored with.So in my opinion Tinnion is My favourite city player ever, what is yours and why?

Guest DrFaustus Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Tainton was a nice chap as is Mr Cheesely, they will do as decent blokes. Glynn Riley however is a grade A knuckle-shuffler.I thank you.

Guest Paul Hudd Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Bob Taylor for me. He was class and how we could do with a striker like him at the moment.1989/90 season he scored goals for fun and two stick in my mind:-Away at Walsall-bullet header from a Dave Smith cross. Won 2-0Away at Swansea-a 30 yard volley which dipped over Roger Freestone-The Vetchfield was a sound of silence when it hit the net, except for the away end. Won 5-0Alan Walsh probably comes a close second-99 goals for a club is a superb record!
Gazred Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Jacki.....did things ive never seen another City player do on the pitch..........and off it for that matter! :Party12:
Chappers Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Alan Walsh - Class left foot, and how did that one trick continually baffle defenders?
Tully Bascomb Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 It`s got to be God Taylor, the complete striker.
Guest Paul Hudd Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Alan Walsh - Class left foot, and how did that one trick continually baffle defenders?Ah Yes, the Walshy shuffle!!How times have changed-we now the Bas Savage quickstep!!!!
old spot Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Glynn Riley however is a grade A knuckle-shuffler. :@ :@ :@ How dare you, you disgusting goat violinist!!!! Get over to that "other site" so i can tell you what a very naughty boy you are!!!!GLYNN RILEY is an all time CITY great. He may not have been the most skillful, but he more than made up for it in effort!! If every player fought for the club in the way he did then we would be in the premiership now emulating the likes of bolton!!!!!!!!! He came as a shining light, along with ALAN CRAWFORD and a returning TOM RITCHIE, to start to lift the gloom that had nearly seen my beloved club destroyed!!GLYNN though is probably not my all time favourite, that will just go to GERRY GOW!! One of my favourite memorys at the GATE was in the old first division, sat on the bar by the wall at the front of the enclosure versus ipswich. An ipswich player flattened a CITY player (can't remember names now). While the ref was giving him a stiff talking too (no yellows in those bygone days), my brother tapped me on the shoulder and said "keep an eye on GG". As the ref finished his lecture GG went over and made a big thing of taking the offending cart horses number. My brother added, "just wait, give it a few minutes and he will take revenge!!Sure enough, a little later, said cart horse recieved the ball in midfield facing his own goal, cue GG, straight through the back of him, absolutely flattening him but winning the ball, and the ref never even gave a foul (nowadays it would probably be a sending off.. how things change). I would still love to know what he "whispered" in the cart horses ear as he got up, leaving him in a crumpled heap. He drifted out of the game after that and may even have been subbed eventually (that was when there was only one sub allowed)!! Classic GOW!!
Guest revkev Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 When Gerry Gow was in the centre of midfield he controlled games. Good distribution, great tackler (gave Billyt Bremner a hard time in those epic cup games in 1974) and a TEAM player, as witnessed by the previous poster. Wish we had him today.Lots of all time favourite players, so hard to pick just one.
cidernuta Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Norman "bite your legs" Hunter . Reason- obvious!.he did what no one dares to do in a city shirt anymore....get stuck in!!!!

Keepers Ball Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 In the 80's in was Alan Walsh.Nowadays Steve Phillips.
