taxidriver999 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Having listened to the commentary on the radio it is clear that if we played until midnight we would not have scored. Our worse fears happened, Brooker injured, new guy plays, clearly not gelled into the team, Bass did his best but we know that it is unlikely that he will score. We should have made every effort to bring in a recognised goal scorer before the transfer window closed as today clearly showed that without Brooker we are lost.Your team GJ is going to have a battle on their hands to avoid relegation because we do not create enough opportunities or score enough goals to win games.
Guest alex1089 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 We were very unlucky today and got done by a crap ref. Should of had a penalty, they got a very lucky goal and a penalty while we created one or two chances but 1 cleared off the line and the other just wide of the post. I agree that we should of got a reqognised striker in but I don't think we should have paid over the odds as we could have been forced into doing. Keep the Faith, we are 19th and they are 5th and we gave them a certain run for there money and ran the game for at least 75mins.
red man dan Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I'm worried though, sounds like we dominated the game and bad ref or not we did sound like we had nothing upfront. Without brooker we will really struggle.......on the upside bridges scored AGAIN. Re-call his loan....oh no we cant we let him go for nothing.
Irishred Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Barnsley commentary is still on matchlive. They seem to feel sorry for Savage and Andrews - 'a decent partnership, worked hard' - got no supply or support from midfield. Methinks the problem is further back the field and the quality of delivery into the box. Still I agree with Alex1089, it would have been a waste of money to pay over the odds for a mediocre striker. We have enough at the club to keep us up. Even with a full team we would have struggled today.
City Exile Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 There is always Gillesp....O dang!We are certainly short of a proven goalscorer if Brooker is out (well, at least one the manager is prepared to play.Siunded like Russell did well, but Carey out is a big blow.

How do you know we should have had a penalty ? you cant make your own opinions on a game which you ( or i) did not watch.
Guest alex1089 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Did you watch the match? I am saying what i heard mate.

At the end of the day , whether unlucky , bad ref, ran the game, etc etc, we LOST , WE are one point above the relegation zone, AND hardly a shot on target with no recognised strike force, and for marcus stewart worshippers , time to let him go , he AINT doing the business, , he AINT interested, all this rubbish about him LOVING bristol city , if that were the case , knowing our position in the league, he would have ran his heart out for the time he was on today , a mate of mine , a barnsley supporter at the game, called me after and asked why we bother with him ., ? said he was just a shadow, there was NO FIRE in his belly AT ALL , he aint the solution, he is still part of the problem , and half of the barnsley team were missing or holding knocks. , some tough time,s ahead, i,m beginning to get worried .
Irishred Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 There is no point getting downhearted about this game. Barnsley are flying high and very fired up at the moment - it was always going to be a write off. The games to win for the rest of the season will be against the teams around us. I think we will get enough points there to survive. If we start to lose those games then it is time to get worried!

If we start to lose those games then it is time to get worried! As that fan who was at the match, stated on radio Bristol,Andrews and Savage, did not make the keeper make one save after 80 minutes when he left. Whats the point in outplayng a team if you have two front players up front who have scored one goal between them in league football. Wake up GJ!!
Irishred Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 i agree mate , but looking at up and coming games theres quite a few so called write off games,We still have nine games against teams who are around us in the table. That is where our league is now. It will be a dogfight. But surely we can beat Yeovil, Swindon, Gillingham and Bournemouth at home and the Don's, Rotherham, Walsall and Hartlepool away???
Guest ashtonyate Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Luck or not, its the table that matters

I hope so mate , but local derbies are notorious for draw,s , as in yeovil and swindon, gillingham i think are on the up , so not all easy , but hopeful .

TomBCFCUK Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 We got someone who can score goals if you give him a "Chance" his name is Marcus Stewart might of heard of him before! Scored goals wherever he has been!

Roger Red Hat Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 they didnt offer £300k upfront for hayter mate!!Thank god for that. A good managerial decision.
Andy082005 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Thank god for that. A good managerial decision.Yeah it was mate. Nearly as good as keeping Bas in the starting line up alongside another 19 year old rookie!Who needs a proven goalscorer in this division when we have those two leading the front!!

Nearly as good as keeping Bas in the starting line up alongside another 19 year old rookie!Who needs a proven goalscorer in this division when we have those two leading the front!!Glad you agree, mate. £300,000+ for a penalty taker sure would've been a poor decision.
Andy082005 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Glad you agree, mate. £300,000+ for a penalty taker sure would've been a poor decision.what we should do is go and loan in more 19 year old players who havent played any first team football and have no experience. Also, bring in another slow, gangly, talentless striker who could get us 1 goal every 13 games.Hayter would have bought pace and knowledge to the front line. Yes he scores a few penalties, but you will also notice a lot of them he makes himself.

That " fan at the match" was an extremely prominent poster on here if i'm not much mistaken. I'm sure he'll be giving his match review, with points per player in the near future.
