PhatWill Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 All considering I thought we played very well today and looked the better team for most of the first half and also at the start of the second. There is absolutely no doubt that we missed Brooker, Noble and Orr and with this amount of changes it was always going to be tough. nevertheless we put ourselves about and the attitude of the players was spot on.Unfortunately there were some worries. Phillips kicking was dreadful and I don't know yet how he won his place back. Can't fault him for the goals though.New kid Andrew looks very rough around the edges. It was a gamble bringing him in and even more of one to start him. His touch looked poor and he never really got himself into decent positions.Savage was doing the Brooker job as it were and did it well it has to be said. I maintain my opinion that he does a job for us and he made plenty of intelligent lay-offs and generally troubled the Barnsley defence. If he were playing alongside Hayter for example, you have to wonder if a few people's opinion of him may change slightly.Stewart came on, conceded a free kick, won a header and then did nothing for the last 10 minutes so it's still 'as you were' with him as far as I'm concerned. All in all against supposedly a 'top' League One side we did very well and possibly on the balance of play were unlucky not to snatch a point. The final third was clearly a big worry and our best chances were created inside the first 10 minutes.A word on the ref - he was bullied by the Barnsley crowd throughout and eventually he folded and gave them an extremely dodgy penalty in which the initial foul was ON Louis Carey. He also missed a blatent hand ball for us in the first half...So on another day it could have been different, but the lads out there did their best and with a couple of players to come back there's no need to panic just yet.

I totally agree! We need a quality striker with Brooks and Bas.

leadman Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 dopeeven if we did sum the game up in much the same way
Guest annred Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Are you serious? We were never a threat to Barnsley although we were on top for most of the game. The club needs to stop penny pinching and bring in a decent striker on loan otherwise there is a serious threat of relegation.
