Bristol Boy
Whilst we're about five months from the end of the season, I'm surprised that we haven't commenced negotiations with some players that one would consider part of our future.Basso, Keogh, Carey spring to mind and whatever your opinion of:Basso (I rate the guy) I wouldnot want to see him walk at the end of this season on a Bosman.Keogh:Proved his versatility this season, captained the Irish U21's and still only a youngster.Carey:Candidate for player of the season and our main man as his recent absence has shown. The there's Murray & RussellMurray:A couple of months ago I wouldn't have given him a prayer of getting another contract, even at a lower salary but his form of late has forced me to reconsider-will GJ?Russell:Done well at times but at 33 and with four younger and some might say, better players competing for his position, he could face an exit.I don't know of any other senior players who are out of contract, although I think Woodman might be?Over to you

Guest brizzlered1
Agree with you totally Bristol Boy, really suprised that we have yet to sort out contracts for some of these players. This is what I would like/think will happen.Basso - 2 year deal - even if we are to sell as reported in the summerKeogh - 3 year deal - for me one of the up and coming players we have. Personally rate him highly and he can play in various positions in the back 4. Would be good enough for The Championship.Carey - 2 year deal - we don't want him going anywhere, he won't want to go anywhere. Would be good for The Championship but time is against him due to his age. A true AG legend. Deserves a testemonial when due, (even though he left temporarily)Murray - 1 Year deal - don't want to see the fans favourite go but until he hit form the exit door looked looming. Don't see us offering more than a 1 year deal, to me its up to him. Wouldn't be suprised if he went elsewhere to get a longer contract. Would be sad though.Russell - No new deal - good job when required, but Johnson has been playing him. Would be suprised if he got a new deal, but that may just be me!Woodman - Personally don't think he is good enough - especially if we get promoted. Puts in a good delivery every 6/7 balls and thus too inconsistent.

Guest Bobo Dave
Fairly obviously - depends if we get promoted or not.If we do, some players may get short term deals in "covering" roles, covering more experienced players that will probably get brought in.If we don't, GJ may have to opt to keep the bulk of the current squad as SL won't won't to splash too much cash on another year in this league. Therefore, nothing will get done until the summer. I would expect that GJ has told the individual players whats what etc.

Bristol Boy
basso wont go on a bosman no ones daft enough to sign himI think that's just plain daft and GJ obviously disagrees as he's made him first chooice. We tried this wait and see which Division we're in stuff under DW/SL and it backfired on us with Matt Hill in particular. frenchred
Let them all run out I say and see what league we are playing in, personally after watching the four games over xmas I don't think ANY of our players would attract the interest of higher placed teams which reduces their bargaining power somewhat
Nibor
I'd give Basso and Murray a year and Carey and Keogh two and let the rest go.The only one I'd be really bothered about losing is Carey.
Robbored
It not a suprise at all that no contract talks have taken place (as far as we know) - its about whether City get promoted or not.Theres no point entering into contract negociatons with any player untill you know what division you'll be playing in next season. If there's a player you want regardless of which division you're in - like Carey - then it makes more sense to offer him a deal with a pay rise if we go up rather than risk losing him on a bosman.I wouldn't be very surprised if GJ let them all go, but I think letting Carey go would be a big mistake. Not only do clubs want to know in which division they'll playing in the next season - so do players.Players are very aware that promotion means a far better wedge and to negociate a deal when next season's level is uncertain would be folly unless your dealing with a frivolous chairman and in City's case that ain't so. You offer em a deal, with an add on should we go up. Performance related if you like, exactly how my company pay.Such as?Basso, Carey & Keogh for a start....aint going to get any experienced blood in to replace them are we. Not Gollums style is it?
