formerly known as ivan
firstly, even after being 2-0 down at half time, there was a feeling yesterday city would pull something out of the hat, and so it proved.in my opinion, the reason we were so bad in the 1st half was because everyone had forgot the basics of football, keeping it simple and not giving away possession easily. the amount of flicks/tricks/step-overs/dummies in the 1st half that were being tried in stupid area's of the pitch was amazing. everytime something was tried we gave the ball back to tranmere. it was almost like they had forgot they are 3rd division footballers.now, sorry for the positive bit, but they came out in the 2nd half and played exactly how everyone knows we can. they were determained and went about things with a purpose. the passing was a lot more precise and they kept the ball well. where in the first half they were trying dummies, players were controlling the ball and laying it off. this is what we would rather see from what is probably the best actual footballing team in the league.lets continue to get behind the boys. the atmosphere in the 2nd have was excellent, probably the best for a league game so far this season. the next few games are majorly important with the likes of oldham and scunny away coming up, and coventry (who conceded 4 at home yesterday!) and could well determain the shape of our season.come on you reds

While the wind may have played a part, it looked one-touch in the first half and two-touch in the second, ie exactly what you've said. A positive to take from it is that the players are trying to step up to the next level (Arsenalesque, Bristol Boy?), and can only improve.Good post. mozo
I agree with the original post. City came out looking confident enough to try to play audacious football from the off. Problem is, they weren't sensible enough to pick and choose when to showboat and when to play it simple. Instead they got nervy and tried long balls to make up for the midfield sloppiness. When both tactics failed to work they found themselves chasing possession too often and being forced back into their own half, hence the two chances for Tranmere. What they should have done is use the flicks and tricks sparingly and play simple football to link the defence and attack. The long ball is only worthwhile when there is a premeditated run over the top or a man free out wide.I think a lot of fans got frustrated, not just out of cynicism, but because we know that these players are capable of playing sensible, attractive football, as we saw in the second half of the last six games. I don't think any major changes are required (after all, we're consistently looking a better team over the full 90 than our opponents), GJ just needs to remind the team to display more common sense.
