Bristol Boy
Experienced striker and with Jevo out for AT LEAST two weeks-that could be a month-he'll be dead handy as he's got an excellent, better than 1:3 record at this level.5' 10" 11st28/29Quick & StrongAnd can play right wing or as a pacy strker.Got 1:7 for Sheff Weds when on loan and never really had a shout at Palace or Cov-although his goals record would suggest he'll only do it at this level.I reckon we'll sign someone similar but better in the next two weeks and, hopefully, a left winger. Sky Blue
Wayne Andrews was the supersub who came on against Barnsley for the Sky Blues. The fans were shouting "you don't know what your'e doing" to Adams (when he took McKenzie off). Within 20 seconds he scored. He scored on a pre-season and then injured his ankle. Came back in Late October and was then loaned out. For some reason he has not been given a run out with Coventry. There were 'rumours' that he and Adams had a difference of opinion. He is not a big bloke but he is pretty sturdy. Adams was interviewed early December and he said that Andrews needed to get some games under his belt so that he could regain his physical fitness--Ref Sheffield Wednesday loan spell. He was sent to Sheffield and was mainly used as a sub. Came back and did play as sub for last few games. He did not start against Bristol City in the cup but came on in the 53rd minute. (The deal must have been done before the Tuesday game because it was unusual for him not being on the bench). He will be an OK signing for you. He does have short bursts of speed. From what I have seen of Bristol City this season he will fit in nicely. Your team like to pass the ball and can also take teams apart. I am surprised Coventry have let him go especially given that Adams has gone. The only thing I can think of is that Coventry have been trying to trim the wage bill. (The finances have been poor this season and there are rumours of Administration or potential investors).
Guest swindlered
I think that GJ's moves in the transfer market this close season have so far been very promising. Jevons gets injured and we instantly get a replacement who should be capable at this level and offers a bit more variety to the squad. To put his goals/games ratio into perspective you need to strip out all of his starts at right wing imo.Wilson is also a good buy. Orr and Keogh are very good defensively at this level but both have weaknesses particularly in the final third of the pitch. Does GJ ever buy players who can only play in one position???
Oizys
I assume he's been brought in as a goal maker rather than a goal getter... GJ has said that Coventry didn't want to extend his loan at Wednesday cos he was doing too well. Well i don't know about you, but 1 in 9 (inc sub) appearances for a striker isn't a great return, so i guess his all round play has been excellent and his contribution for the team has been valuable, but without the goals. With the form that Murray's in, could he be looking at operating Murray as a striker and Andrews on the wing? Who knows... Before this signing, i was thinking it'd be Eunich up front and Wilson on the left wing. I guess there's this that can be said... we've got options. robins72
I recall us being after Andrews a couple of years ago. Not sure if it was under Tinnion or Wilson. Had some pace and remember him playing for Colchester. If he had his best days at Oldham then perhaps he can find his goal scoring feet and bang a few goals in for us tomorrow? He played in the cup game at ashton gate with Stern John IF I remember rightly. Guess he will be ok to play in the jpt Tuesday night too. Good news then!! IP: Logged titchy_owl Posted on 31/12 11:40 Email this Message | Reply re: Wayne Andrews --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Not good enough IMO. He's played pretty much every game since he came but we're short in right midfield.Shocking first touch, which was proved yesterday when it just happened to fly past the keeper into the bottom corner. IP: Logged johann Posted on 31/12 11:53 Email this Message | Reply re: Wayne Andrews --------------------------------------------------------------------------------To be fair to the lad he has done us a huge favour by helping us out.We made a bit of an error leaving ourselves with just one right winger, a player that spent alot of last season injured aswell. He has certainly kept the balance to or midfield and prevented us from having to switch Brunt to the right in Smalls absence. Each game he has played he has put in maximum effort and has played his part in our fine run of form. However once Small is fully fit, and i mean FULLY fit not just 70%, we should be moving Andrews on. Personally i don't consider him to be better than McAllister or the other youngsters that could do a short term job in future, or at least the gap in ability isn't sufficient to warrant the higher wage. So i'd opt for a quality winger to challange Small for the right wing slot properly or just stick with the youngsters as back-up. IP: Logged AnteMirocevic Posted on 31/12 17:51 Email this Message | Reply re: Wayne Andrews --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Poor touch , Poor Awareness , Doesn't have a trick and only seems able to run in a straight line and blast the ball really hard. The latter came in handy for his goal against Barnsley though IP: Logged andrew_swfc Posted on 31/12 17:55 Email this Message | Reply re: Wayne Andrews --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for help Wayne...... but not good enough IMHO. andy g
I expect we've got Andrews as cover for Phil Jevons. But, if we're still looking to bring a striker in on a permanent deal, isnt this a strange signing ? If we DO bring in someone else, it would leave Andrews sat on the bench. So what do you think ?
