Bristol Boy Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 OK, we know that Brooks came through the resvs game unscathed after 45 minutes and it doesn't take a genius to work out that we've missed him all season.Enoch & CS missed the game at Boro with injuries and Carey & McAllister are suspended.Betsy, Wilson & Andrews return, so, should we, for example give Scott Murray who played all 120 minutes at Boro at rest and start with Betsy? Should Skuse replace Russell who also played the full 120??We have an opportunity to play fresh players or the ones that missed out through injury (Providing they recover in time) or should we reward those who perfrormed so well at Boro?A lot of it depends on how the players react and how well they train, but Saturdays game at Blackpool has the look of a must win after we have dropped eight points out of the last nine. There is also the small matter of a 19,000 sell out game the following Weds at the Gate and for all this nonsense I hear about not worrying about beating the Gas, let's face it, we all do care passionately and beating them and winning promotion were never mutually exclusive. So, if you had to pick the team and assuming everyone that isn't suspended was fit, what would you do?I'll stick my neck out and predict:4-4-2.................WEALE.................ORR............KEOGH.....MCCOMBE................FONTAINE.....BETSY.......RUSSELL...............JOHNSON.................WILSON..............JEVONS..............SHOWUNMI.........SUBSBASSOBROOKERMURRAYSKUSEWOODMANThe Boro games were one offs and the formation more or less forced on GJ who rarely changes for changes sake.If Showunmi doesn't make it, then Brooker may be given a start with Andrews coming onto the bench.Rotten bad luck on Noble & Andrews, although, another alternative would be to play 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 and include Noble in a three man midfield. That formation may well be the way we grind out more wins away. The following game against the Gas will see us without McAllister (suspended) plus Betsy & Wilson( cup tied), so it makes sense to utilise the players in the games they can play (Andrews against the Gas), subject to performance of course.Over to you.
exiledinwatford Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I was thinking the same thing - the size of our squad does now give us the opportunity to make the most of fresh legs and with another cup game on Wednesday I reckon it's pretty impotant we shuffle the pack. Bear in mind Blackpool played 180 mins as well and the trip to/from Norwich isn't an easy one - their squad is probably not as big as ours. Their disappointment over losing out on a tie against Chelski might also be a factor - reading this I think we've already won!I agree that Scotty desrves a rest - he'll be up for it against you know who on Wednesday. I also believe Skuse will come in leaving Russell on the bench - a bench which should include JMW. Don't know why GJ only ever has one attacker on the bench? Brooks will have piles.....WEALEORR....KEOGH....MCCOMBE....FONTAINEBETSY....SKUSE....JOHNSON.....WILSONJEVONS....ENOCHSUBS.BASSORUSSELLANDREWSJMWPARTRIDGE
Guest Aberdeen_Pete Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I would be highly surprised if Noble did not feature in Saturdays game unless he is injured, he perhaps deserves a role alongside Johnson in the centre of midfield.... he has often been criticised for his defensive ability but he covered so much ground in last nights game that he has clearly worked on this aspect of his game...He ought to get on the bench at the very least...Johnson Snr. is the type of manager who credits hard work and commitment, both shown in abundance last night, thus I see little significant change in the side from that of Tuesday night.WealeOrr Keogh McCombe FontaineMurray Johnson Noble WilsonJevons Showumni (If fit)
robins72 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 But the question is can we beat the Blackpool jinx? We havent won there since Febeuary 2000 when a certain Keith Millen scored
exiledinwatford Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 But the question is can we beat the Blackpool jinx? We havent won there since Febeuary 2000 when a certain Keith Millen scored Question is what the hell were you given on Saturday??????????????????
Jay Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 But the question is can we beat the Blackpool jinx? We havent won there since Febeuary 2000 when a certain Keith Millen scored A certain 5-1 loss at a crutial point in the season still lingers in my mind. It's about time we beat them on their own turf.
Blagdon red Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 A certain 5-1 loss at a crutial point in the season still lingers in my mind. It's about time we beat them on their own turf. What I remember most of that game is a certain Mr D Wilson just leaning against the dug-out - as ever - and showing no emotion whatsoever as the last promotion hopes of that season evaporated before his eyes.It can't be that bad ever again... can it?

Bristol Boy Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 I would be highly surprised if Noble did not feature in Saturdays game unless he is injured, he perhaps deserves a role alongside Johnson in the centre of midfield.... That's the problem.Probably the best two players individually but can't play together in a two man central midfield.Any combination of Noble/Skuse/Rusell or any combination of Johnson/Russell/Skuse.Now, play them in a three man central midfield and it works as we've seen twice against BoroA certain 5-1 loss at a crutial point in the season still lingers in my mind. It's about time we beat them on their own turf. And a certain Richard Walker was up front with Murphy as we were four nild won at half time. They battered hell out of MH & DC.Wonder what happened to that Walker.
arpaul Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 It can't be that bad ever again... can it?I would guess Tinnions trip to the Gower Coast was a lot worse.
Bristol Boy Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 Having listened to GJ on WorldCarey & McAllister are suspended.Showunmi's injured-Will ES & SB ever be fit at the same time I reckon Betsy, Wilson & Andrews will return and start, especially as two of them can't play against the Gas.Providing he is fit Skuse will start.Fresh legs should give us an opportunity to dominate on Blackpools beach and they have injury worries.4-4-2............WEALE......ORR............KEOGH.....MCCOMBE...FONTAINE.....BETSY.......SKUSE..JOHNSON....WILSON..........ANDREWS........BROOKER.........SUBSBASSOJEVONS or JMWMURRAYRUSSELLWOODMANThat leaves the five subs fresher to face the Gas, starting if required, plus a longer rest for Noble, JMW & Carey, if they're required. The game against the Gas will see us with only McAllister suspended.
reddoh Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 But the question is can we beat the Blackpool jinx? We havent won there since Febeuary 2000 when a certain Keith Millen scored with hindsight yes
Guest Jungle Jim Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 with hindsight yesAgreed, I fancy Brooker or Showumni to grab the winner.Anyone know why Andrews was left out of the squad ;-)
