After a weekend away with no means of following the match other than a very nervous time with Ceefax, this makes a great read. Thanks! Especially glad to hear that Bass hasn't lost out, and that he had a good game.

It's fair to say that we've got two excellent goalkeepers and I hope Basso, along with Carey is rewarded with a new contract as they are both capable of playing at Championship level, IMHO, if we acheive promotion.

It was good to hear Brooker playing and making a full contribution, after all we know from some contributors on here that he has "had a falling out with GJ and will never play for the club again" :fastasleep::fastasleep::whistle:

Good report BB - thanks.

It's interesting that you show all the different formations. Most Div 3 teams would struggle with one change of formation but this has 3 or 4! I wonder if Johnson has a criteria that any new players must be "intelligent" to cope with tactics.

Following the radical changes at Boro mid-week that ended (nearly) in a good result, and the radical changes mentioned here, I think it is a real credit to the coaching staff and players.

Maybe in the past we've missed promotion because of lack of adaptability?

I think we've missed out this season by not being flexible enough and our ball retention in comparision to last season has been poor at times-Thus six away defeats and performances like Cheltm first half.

We've been short of a left winger since Aaron Brown left and, in short, if we haven't got a left winger, we haven't got one and wing backs are one solution as opposed to shifting players to a position they wouldn't choose as their best, however hard they try.The other solution of course, is to sign one but we've been struggling with that.

In a 3-5-2, we've got some options and we've got FIVE quality centre backs to compete for three central positions.Playing three in central midfield means we utilise Noble & Johnson whilst giving them some safety as Russell or Skuse "lock the door behind them"

Wilson & McAllister would probably be first choice as wing backs with Murray & Besty able to cover the right best and the left as a push before you get to Craig Woodman who's a good defender and passer but not the best going forward.

It fits and, at least away from home, as I've said ad nauseum, it could well be an effective formation and one that starves the opposition of the most vital thing in football, the ball.

The problem with 3-5-2 is that our centre backs are not exactly blessed with pace. If the wing back gets caught out of position (through attacking) then it leaves the opposition to counter with a nippy winger straight at the three "not-very-quick" centre halves.

We get away with it in this division but IF we get to the Championship we will really struggle with 3-5-2 and the current defenders. Maybe by then we will have found the mythical left sided midfielder.

As centre backs go, I think Carey, Keogh & Fontaine are quick enough. Not Keith Curle quick, but they didn't get done for pace against Boro and neither did McCombe.I actually think that GJ likes a right footer wide left or surely he'd have signed a left winger by now.
