Bristol Boy Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 OK, it's a local derby and anyone that says they really don't care isn't fooling me.Do we care about it as much as promotion-Nah, but local bragging rights are important and let's face it, we don't like 'em.No reason.Nothing personal.Just good old fashioned, unreasoned, blind prejudice of the highest order and without their patch pocket trousers, platform shoes, six toe'd trainers, donkey jackets and flares.....ooh, and the pong, we wouldn't know a Gashead amongst us. So lets look at the things we usually do with a big game coming up and the 15 coaches leaving The Mem to travel across the River (well, you know, the roads by the river) to AG.Turning to their away form, over the season, it's not greatP15 W3 D4 L8 F14 A23 Pts Poss 45 Pts Won 13 29%Last 6 AwaysP6 W2 D2 L2 F7 A7 Pts Poss 18 Pts Won 8 44%that's all games inc cup, but it gives you an idea that they've improved as of late away from home in all games played.Last 6 GamesP6 W2 D1 L3 F8 A9 Pts Poss 18 Pts Won 7Drops down to 39% and they've lost two and drawn one of their last three games, two were at home, conceeding 7 and scoring 5.So what we have here is a team that is 10th in Div 4 with a minus goal difference and that is ten points off the play offs, which, as you will all know is 7th place in Div 4, albit with an away game in hand. Now then, I've heard all the gumph about Derbies and form going out the window and sometimes, just sometimes, that's true, however, they aren't a better team than us and we aren't two points off automatic promotion in League One and they aren't where they are, because they're better than us.It isn't a one off cup match, it's a two leg affair and we've beaten Oldham 3-0 & Blackpool 1-0 away in two out of our last three League Games, losing to the League Leaders, narrowly at that, 1-0.Whilst dipping lately, our home form has seen us pick up the vast majority of points we've played for and AG has become something of a fortress so thera re no excuses on that count.City Home FormP16 W11 D3 L2 F25 A15 Pts Poss 48 Pts Won 36 75%We have no reason to be disrespectful of them and never should be as over confidence kills, however, we have nothing to be frightened of either.Let's get on with it and attack from the word go to the final whistle.
Guest PaulTrollopesBlueArmy Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Just to let you know our cup form is very good, and in this cup we are yet to concede, beat Torquay 1-0 at home, beat Wycombe away 2-0, beat peterborough at home 1-0 and beat Shrewsbury away 1-0, so thats played 4 won 4 drew none lost none scored 5 conceded 0.We have also beaten barrow away 3-2 and beat bournmouth 1-0 away

Redhyde Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 So they've only beaten one team from our league.
Will Rollason Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 What are the gas like at the moment then Paul? Are you going to kick the bejesus out of us and lump it up to the big men or will there be some football played??? I would suggest the former if you want to be in with a chance and i suspect that Trollope will have that in mind.

I think it's because I work outside of the area most of the time and don't really socialise in local pubs etc, but I don't know many gasheads to "win bragging rights" over. The only one I know is my Father in law and he doesn't count because, like the majority of them, he doesn't go to games anymore! That coupled with their absence from our league for a while has made the game lose some significance for me.I am relying on the atmosphere on the night to fire my enthusiasm.
SeaMillsRed Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 don't forget the Derby FA Cup game.. they played them off the park.....muppets

We have two lumps up front normally, but we don't play long ball, we attempt to pass it. I think that the good pitch provided will suit us.

samo Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 The sags have shipped 9 goals in the last four games, all against league two opposition. The flip side bing they have scored 8 in the same period, again all in the basement league. They seem to have goals in them if nothing else, and maybe we'll be looking at a high scoring set of games.
Flaxbourton Red Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 We have also beaten barrow away 3-2 and beat bournmouth 1-0 awayoh no, they beat barrow.we might as well give up.....
Will Rollason Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 so much depends on mentality... if the city team that beat Oldham 3-0 away or drew twice with Boro turns up then the Gas could be in trouble
