Bristol Boy Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Best extends loan deal at Yeovil. Best spent the first part of the season on loan at Bournemouth. Yeovil manager Russell Slade has confirmed Southampton striker Leon Best has had his loan extended for a third and final month. Best is on an emergency loan at Huish Park meaning he is able to stay at the club for a maximum of 93 days and he will leave on 23 February. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Scored in his last game tonight.Stewart was sub if anyone's interested. Now, we'll see if we're interested or not.
citytop22 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Couple of weeks ago maybe, but now Andrews is playing OK, Brooker back and with Jevo and Enoch cant see any reason why we should want him
samo Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Having netted 10 in 15 over his time at Yeovil I'd hope we would be looking to bring him in! With us never able to name Enoch and Brooker in the same squad, let alone starting line up, we should be looking to ensure we have the maximum number of options open to GJ for the run in. Not knocking Andrews, who is doing well for us, but Best looks a class apart at this level and we'd be foolish to overlook him if we could get his services. Plus he'd not be cup-tied for the JPT, which is a bonus.
Guest Jack Adams Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 He's already played for 2 clubs this season.
Nibor Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 He's already played for 2 clubs this season.Indeed, and under FIFA rules he cannot play for a third club until after June 30th.He isn't coming here, I think his season is effectively over when his loan to Yeovil is up.
Guest Topbuzz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 BB seems to be ITK though about such things I reckon he knows something we don't

I know there is an example of this, but I am struggling to think of one... I am 100% sure of this though.

Got an example!
Nibor Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Maybe you're right and it doesn't apply to loans but the reports for the Mascherano transfer all used the phrase "cannot play competitively for three clubs".
City_pete1 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Maybe you're right and it doesn't apply to loans but the reports for the Mascherano transfer all used the phrase "cannot play competitively for three clubs".Yeah you are correct. Thats why when it was said somewhere or another that it didn't apply to coca cola leagues, it stood out and I remember it for that reason! Oh well, we will see.
Bristol Boy Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 Couple of weeks ago maybe, but now Andrews is playing OK, Brooker back and with Jevo and Enoch cant see any reason why we should want him. When I see ES & SB turn out for say, five consecutive games, I might agree with you and what you miss is the fact that it's about type, not how many, strikers you have.We could sign another two like Andrews and as good, but without a hold up player or a major tactical rethink, they'll be ineffective.Prove ot last year when we added Bas who couldn't even score, we were still a better team for it.We added McGammon and looked even betterIndeed, and under FIFA rules he cannot play for a third club until after June 30th.He isn't coming here, I think his season is effectively over when his loan to Yeovil is up.I think you'll find that isn't the case in the Football League, with "emergency" loans.Whatever happens, I'd like to see him at the gate and I hope, if it's possible, that GJ's working on it.
Guest Topbuzz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Lets hope Keogh made a good impression on hin as they both in the Irish under 21's together Love to see him at the club
The Casual Connoisseur Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 But surely if he is as good a s his record shows, he will be looking at a first team squad call up for the Saints?
Guest Topbuzz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Not sure they got a very good squad this year
Nibor Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I think you'll find that isn't the case in the Football League, with "emergency" rolleyes.gif loans.Whatever happens, I'd like to see him at the gate and I hope, if it's possible, that GJ's working on it.Emergency loans need sorting out, they're a crock. Teams should only be able to use them if they don't have a fit keeper or 16 fit outfield players registered. Non emergency loans should only be allowed for a whole season and limited to 2 players a season in and 2 out. I'm sick and tired of seeing clubs abuse the system, you shouldn't be able to build a squad full of other team's players, and it would also encourage the bigger clubs not to snap up every promising youngster they can knowing they can loan them out for experience.I've not seen alot of Best but he appears to be the sort of young quick striker with an eye for goal I'd love to see us sign but I can't help thinking the basis of any rumour is really wishful thinking.
Port Said Red Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 It will partly rely on what happens to Andrews now that Dowie has gone to Coventry. As someone pointed out he has worked with him before so he may want to go back and take his chances there. If our fitness worries continue amongst the strikers, that would leave us short of cover. Is there a particular reason that people think that Best would come here, other than geography?
Guest LibertineRanger Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I don't think the 3 clubs rules applies to loans fellas. We just signed Lee Camp who has played for Derby and Norwich already, but only Derby permanently. Also, the reson Liverpool were allowed to sign Mascherano is something to do with the fact that the Brazilian league runs at a completely different time in the calendar year. Though he's played for three clubs in 2006/2007, his appearances for Corinthians were before the start of the UEFA season. As for Leon Best, hwe played 10 games or so for us a while back. He looked quick, strong and very agile. Didn't shurk a challenge and had a great work rate. He just wasn't quite sharp enough though for me and lacked a bit of match fitness. THat's something he's probably picked up after his more recent loan spells. Looks a really good prospect now. I think Saints'll hold on to him for a while longer, maybe loan him out next season too. He'd certainly be an improvement on that arrogant, cheating, diving "QPR fan" Wayne Andrews though.

As someone pointed out he has worked with him before so he may want to go back and take his chances there. If our fitness worries continue amongst the strikers, that would leave us short of cover.I was wondering about what might happen with Andrews, especially in relation to this Leon Best rumour. After a decent win for the Sky Blues last night put them in a good position to avoid the relegation struggle maybe Dowie (who we shouldn't forget has signed Andrews twice before) will feel he could do with having a look at all his options before the inevitable personel shake up he will oversee this coming summer. And with the sort of form Andrews is in right now he might just like to have him back for his goals!Us getting Best might be to cover for this possiblilty or to allow it to happen. We don't know what is being done behind the scenes, and it might all be in motion as we speak. Is there a particular reason that people think that Best would come here, other than geography? With Marek Saganowski, Kenwyne Jones, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Grzegorz Rasiak all fit and competing for just two first team slots ahead of him at Southampton right now it's unlikely that he'd be seeing Championship action with them. And with the Saints striving for a place in the play-offs they'd be mad to allow him to go to another club in their division. And with us being near the sumit of the next-best division he would then be able to play in and alot closer than the others around us (bar Yeovil who he can no longer play for) , then we might well appeal as a loan location for him.
cheshire_red Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Dave Partridge, has played 5 games this term for Us, Orient and Brentford.
