Another bad day at the office. That's three bad days, at home on the spin:

Cheltm:0-1 to a team that had previously lost ELEVEN away games and were in the bottom four.

Huddsfld:1-1 Last gasp strike and we could easily have lost.

Rovers:0-0 Not even a good fourth divsion team and with a poor away record.

270 minutes of boring, indecisive, inept football. We lack both a plan and purpose.

The fact that we only lost one tells you much about the quality of football & the division we play in.That Division is bereft of a quality, consistent team.

Away from home, we've seen three real performances:

Boro:2-2

Oldham:3-0

Blackpool:1-0

Why have we forgotten how to perform at home?

This causes me serious concern as most of our games against top teams are at home.We don't seem to have the stomach or tactical nouse for it and I don't see a player or players who are pulling our team up by their bootstraps and creating a rousing performance.I've been concerned about the performanc level for a while and I've said so frequently.

It's all very well edging scruffy one nils and scraping draws, but not all the time and I have to say that our performances during the 20+ game run in under GJ last season were far and away better than the majority of our performances this season.Going a goal or two down points to either a lack of concentration or a lack of creativity-probably both

Assuming that the players who failed fitness tests last night are available and Murray isn't, I would humbly suggest that we play 3-5-2 again at BHA this weekend. It looked fine at Blackpool until AR went off and we didn't have a central midfielder on the bench.

When we play the Gas, Murray will, hopefully be fit and he can replace Wilson (Cup Tied) and if he isn't, then Orr can play there.JMW comes in for Betsy who's also cup tied.

If the injured players don't recover then Fontaine replaces McCombe with Carey moving to the centre.Skuse replaces Russell & Jevons or JMW Showunmi.

That'll do for me - mainly because it's balanced with players in their rightful positions.

A strong side compared to last night and capable of at least a draw despite Brighton's recent good form.

And, if it does well, a minimal number of changes for the next game, barring injuries.

Betsy will surely start at right wing over Wilson?

We have very little experience in our squad and that could prove very costly at the end of the season.

It is all very well having young players with 'championship athleticism' but players also need to be able to handle the pressure of playing in front 11,000+ demanding fans at home every other week and it is obvious that many current 1st team players are well below that ATM.

Maybe becausethe fan's at the Gate can get on the teams back and moan so much, when ya go away everyone is more upbeat and togeather. Up at Bora there was only just over 1000 of us yet we out sung 20+ thousand northerners.

Now tell me at work if your Boss tells ya how pleased he/she is with your work you don't (a) feel better or (b) work better because of it, I think we need to relax a little more and make the Gate a scary place to come to as an away player/fan, through the amount of singing/chanting we do and not get out sung by some kids with asbo's from a little town in the middle of no where.

Not at RWB, but you never know with GJ

McAllister, Carey, Basso, Russell, Brooker, Betsy, Murray, Andrews that all experienced pros some of whom have played in front of 50k plus crowds-Don't see that being a real issue.

Did you not rate the performances at Northampton, Port Vale or Coventry then? Personally I thought all three were not only wins but good performances. :dunno:

I agree with you that there is a concern about our home form, but playing top teams at home should suit us more as they are more likely to play rather than stuff men behind the ball. Rovers showed how we struggle at home when tems sit deep against us rather than giving us a game. I'd be surprised if Forest, Swans etc do that.

I think it's also about expectation. It's not unreasonable for the fans at AG to expect the side to "have a go" at opposition who are at the bottom of the division (or mid table in the one below). I think we have become a pretty sterile outfit. Remember the buzz around the place when the team is in form and full of confidence. I remember a Tuesday night game against Reading in the LDV when we beat them 4-0. We were flying and we just couldn't wait to get back for the next game - no lack of atmosphere then if I remember. I also remember getting beaten at home when we murdered the opposition - the lads got a standing ovation.

It's pretty difficult for fans to continually be singing when the style of play is so pedestrian. There is a lot to admire in many of the players though just not too exciting :crying:

The majority of players mentioned have only played lower league football and arguably in front of under demanding fans:

Andrews (Colchester U, hardly played for Crystal P)

Betsy (Barnsley, Oldham A, Wycombe W)

Russell (Torquay U)

Johnson (Watford, HOM, Yeovil T)

Wilson (hardly played for Stoke C, Cheltenham T)

Orr (Newcastle U Res)

Jevons (Everton Res, Grimsby T, Yeovil T)

Noble (Arsenal Res, Boston U)

Brooker (Watford, Port V)

Fontaine (Fulham Res, Yeovil T)

Showunmi (Luton T)

Woodman. Myrie-Williams, Skuse

As we all know Murray can go missig in big games.

Keogh, McCombe although young look to be able to handle the pressure.

Even Basso is relatively inexperienced in higher level english football.

Louis Carey is probably our most experienced player with McAllister a close 2nd.

IMO a BCFC player has to have nerves of steel and you only get that from experience.

Depends on their situation in the League and they've got better players up front.Yeovil brought in a replacement striker on loan for Best today-Forest have some quality ones of their day although they seem to be struggling more than us lately.I don't think they're better teams but we must play the game and not the occassion.

Betsy has played at right back before in his career. So I reckon he'll be able to do a good job at right wing back. Unless Johnson feels 3-5-2 won't work after last night, in which case Betsy will play right wing.

Having been 1 of our better players recently, and after his replacements did so poorly vs Rovers, I'd be pretty shocked if Betsy wasn't in the team.

3-5-2 does work but only if your wing backs are good at getting forward last night orr and woodman were shocking to be honest

I'm sorry. I've reread your original post and see what you mean now. I misunderstood it.

And we didn't play 3-5-2.It was meant to be 3-4-1-2 going by what RL & GJ said in the interview, but it looked like 4-3-1-2 to me after about five minutes and for most of the rest of the game.

We have Wilson & McAllister who can play well there- also Murray & Betsy on the right.Betsy filled in quite well at Blackpool however he is predominantly right sided.I suppose Wilson could fill in at LWB as well, certainly he'd be more use going forward than CW or BO in either role, while both are arguably better defenders than BW.I think McAllister is probably the best all round wing back and full back at the club.

if we play well we should get sumut from brighton.

Agreed but not if we play a daft formation like Weds

i think betsy must play after a good performance at bpool.

No probs with that, what position?

Murrays injury will increase his chances in any event.

Agreed he was imense at Blackpool!!

I think he looked fit and did well particularly as injuries meant him moving around after he was out of position in the first place. But imense?

Wouldn't go that far.

Keogh

McAllister

McCombe

Carey

Noble

Skuse

Wilson

Betsy

Brooker

Jevons

Subs:Weale/Thomas, Orr, Johnson, Andrews, Fontaine.
