Guest leepeacock's50phead Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Am I the only one who would be more than happy for us to go out against the gas next week the get this damn thing out the way?I, as I'm sure many of you, have watched City in 2 finals at Wembley and one in Cardiff but when we beat Carlisle last time - I felt incredibly underwhelmed.Of course it was a good day out but apart from that, and a good few quid to the club, there is little reward. Why not give the winners an automotic place in the 3rd round of the FA cup or just something other that a large cup and a BIG diversion for the players.Obviously losing to the gas isn't the best thing in the world but lets not give them too much importance they don't deserve.I remember in the late 80's early 90's the teams were neck and neck - they were a proper rival to us and often got the better of us.Now, Rovers are an average bottom tier team and are given far more importance than I thing they deserve. If they get there moment against us next week - so what? I find it hard to believe getting to the final wouldnt affect our players in some way or form and the extremely aggresive and nasty atmosphere that seems to envelop Asthon Gate every time we play has nothing to do with not winning this cup enough, its because we have come too close, too many times too getting out of this poxy division in the last few years.I'm sure a lot of us know sags who would revel in beating us but the facts stay the same in that while we continually seem incapable to get promotion, Rovers have only gone downhill since the heady days when they somehow contrived to miss out on promotion to the division above us in the early 90's.Importantly, while they tell you this and that - Rovers fans know that their team has become an established bottom tier team for those of you who haven't experienced a final in this competition, I understand a day out in Cardiff would be great fun but if it means us taking our eye off the league it just doesn't have the rewards to make it worth it.Of course this is all just my opinion but I'm more sick of this division than I am of not having enough silverware in the cabinet.
solo1bc Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Of course this is all just my opinion but I'm more sick of this division than I am of not having enough silverware in the cabinet.Agree with that but something your missing is that a cup final is probably worth cool £1 million. Either to be cleared off the debt or invested back into the team/club...Not to be sniffed at IMO.
Old Spot Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I won't waste my money going to bahhhddifff if we did get there!!I't's a rubbish atmosphere with thousands not knowing any players let alone any songs. It's a meaningless trophy. Most football fans couldn't tell you who the holders are anyway!!It is a diversion for the players and another game to be re arranged!!No matter how much money we make, it never seems to get spent wisely anyway!! It would be nice to stop the sags from amaking anything but i would take a fine and play the youngsters who would be fresher, gain experience of a competetive game and are capable of winning anyway. If they did get us to the final then let them enjoy it and allow the senior players to get on with what really matters!!!
Redhyde Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 It's great that a club like us gets to go to a major stadium. However i've been there twice now, the atmos is ruined by kids and horns and i'd only go for a playoff final match i think now.If we go and stay up, realistically we'll never go there again. So take the opportunity while you can i guess.
WTFiGO!?! Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Yeah, what with the commersialised enterprise that the Beautiful Game has now evolved into I do agree that the pisspot bullshite is a condescending, sinister and exploitative waste of time. Bollox to the 'nice day out', the face paint, the foam hands and the 20,000 hanger-on ball suckers; bollox to it all. Although it is worth £500, 000 into the bottemless-debt pot 'business' apparently, tbf .Losing to the scum is an ageless fear that will live well and beyond any of this superficial bullcrap.
sephjnr Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Fine then. You lot stay at home, and leave it to us to go to a major stadium that we'd have very little chance of getting to if it were not for this competition. And can I suggest that in the scenario that dictates that we're still in this division this time next year, few people will be turning down a chance to see such a game at Wembley, cup-that-nobody-except-the-bank-managers-care-about or not.And before the "we'd rather win the league" people start, I'll get it out of the way right now. WE HAVEN'T. FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS. We've had so many opportunities in the past but have fallen short so far, and it can still happen yet again. Every club will take everything it can get, including ours. Even if money is a non-factor. So the 'day out' you so readily spurn will mean everything to the new generation of city fans that aren't so ready to accept season after season of embittered commentaries of the state of the game quite yet.

Point two, The New Wembley would be nice to do for a one off occasion, obviously.Point three, Until my Club and it's culture is returned from it's commercialised trip I'm very close to temporarily buggering off.Rugby lads I know I met up with tonight, they hated the Bath game down AG: ''well, it's like you're just sat there, you couldn't move around or anything, it just felt dull, a bit flat, just wasn't the same as at the Mem'' to quote them. I said ''you do not understand, I just hope for you lot it's not going the same as Football and City have'', my fear for them is that their ignorantly bliss bubble of genuinity and sincerety will be raped by the commersial world. That would only be good news for 'us' though.

Red Robin Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 personally it would be nice to win but i would rather Scunny And Yeovil lose on tuesday nightI said way back it will be two very hard games against the gas, still do.We wanted a two goal advantage to be confident.Rovers will shade it next week,I just hope I'm proven wrong but I doubt it.

Guest Rob Taylor Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I don't care how Tuesday's result goes as long as we get promotion. It's just a pity that it is the Gas we have to play that night. Losing to any other team wouldn't be so hard to swallow. I still believe we'll beat them and get promotion. The final would be against Doncaster who we play the week before in the league, that would be intersting!
